Is Toluna Legit Or A Scam? (My Honest Toluna Review!)
If you research ways to make money online before, then you’ve probably come across survey sites.
Paid survey sites are a quick and simple way to make a few bucks a day in your spare time without needing any prior skills. And I've been using and testing them out for years at this point to make extra money on the side.
Today, I'm covering Toluna, another global survey site that's also growing in popularity.
I signed up for this site to test out how it works. And in my Toluna review, I'm covering its earning potential, how to get started, and all the pros and cons of using this platform.
What Is Toluna & What Does It Offer?
Toluna is a Paris-based research company that began in 2000. The platform lets you make money by answering surveys, testing products, answering polls, and playing games to make extra money.
In other words, Toluna is a get-paid-to website where you can make money by completing a variety of short online tasks and by sharing your opinion.
If you've ever used survey platforms like Survey Junkie or Kashkick, then Toluna should feel quite familiar for you. Most Toluna users are on the platforms to make a bit of cash from answering surveys, but Toluna also has a community section on their site.
The community section essentially acts like a social media app where you can discuss your opinions on certain things like “Favorite Meal: Dinner vs Breakfast”.
The bottom line is that this is a robust survey site with several ways to earn rewards, and it's also completely free to use.
Is Toluna Legit?
Yes, Toluna is legit and lets you make money for completing surveys and short online tasks. The company has been around since 2000 and has a 4.1 star rating on Trustpilot with over 28,000 reviews.
I was also able to sign up for Toluna and complete surveys. The company paid me for doing so, and it's a reputable survey site with a great online reputation.
Most negative reviews result from Toluna's low earning potential, but this doesn't mean the website isn't legit. This is just the nature of survey sites.
How Does Toluna Work?
I signed up for Toluna to try it out before writing this review. It's a pretty beginner-friendly way to make money online, and if you've used a paid survey site before, it should feel familiar.
Earning rewards with Toluna takes seven simple steps:
- Sign up for Toluna
- Complete Toluna surveys
- Answer sponsored polls
- Play games to earn prizes
- Complete your profile
- Win contests
- Refer friends
1. Sign Up For Toluna
You have to be 16 or older and have a working PayPal account to sign up for Toluna. Currently, Toluna accepts members from 70+ countries, including the United States, UK, and Canada, and it's a great teen survey site because of its age requirement.
To sign up for Toluna, head over to its website and click the “sign up” button.
You sign up with your email and create a password. After signing up, you also complete a brief profile questionnaire where you include information like your name, address, and date of birth. You then verify your email to finish singing up.
The final step is using Toluna is to finish off your profile. This involves answering another quick demographic survey about yourself in order to get accurate surveys that are more relevant to you.
2. Complete Toluna Surveys
Answering surveys is the main way to make money with this side hustle.
You access available Toluna surveys by going to the navigation menu at the top of the website, hovering over “Surveys”, and clicking “Survey Center”.
The cool thing about Toluna is that it offers you two different surveys to start. The first type of survey are ones that take under 10 minutes while the second type take over 10 minutes.
This flexibility means you can use Toluna to make extra money even if you just have a few minutes, but longer surveys are still available if you have more time on your hands.
The first real survey I received took 5 minutes to complete and asked me about which advertisements I trusted.
Many Toluna surveys pay $0.25 to $1, but you can find surveys that pay $1 to $2 or more if you get a bit lucky.
Just note that Toluna asks for your qualifications before every survey. This means you sometimes spend time answering a few survey questions only to get disqualified, which is a downside.
3. Answer Sponsored Polls
Toluna polls are basically short polls the entire community can answer to earn bonus points. Polls are usually just a few questions and only pay a few points, so you're earning much less than with regular surveys.
Each sponsored poll pays you 15 points on Toluna, whereas the average survey earns you around 3,000 points.
You can also upvote, downvote, or share the poll on other social media. This is where their community section comes into play.
4. Play Games
There are a variety of websites that pay you PayPal cash for playing games, and Toluna is one of these websites.
Toluna games are under the drop down menu of the community section on the website. This section lets you play different games to earn points, so it's basically a way to make money playing video games.
Currently, my dashboard always shows the same three games in rotation:
- Scratch The Ticket
- The Toluna Photo Booth
- The Christmas Detective
Some of them change based on the month or season, but they’re all relatively similar. All of the games basically lead back to the ticket scratcher game where you can earn a random number of points.
This isn't great variety, and there are tons of other cash games you can try. For example, apps like Rewarded Play and Mistplay have way more game variety than Toluna.
5. Complete Your Profile
Toluna has a “Profile Surveys” section where it asks you questions based on your personal specifications.
Each section you complete gives you 100 points and there are 12 different sections. It’s a pretty easy 1,200 points, and completing your profile unlocks more survey opportunities so make more money overall.
6. Win Contests
Toluna runs small contests on its platform for users to earn some extra points once in a while. The contests are pretty hard and are mostly based on educated guesses (which makes it fair for the most part).
If you win, you can earn 1,000 points or more depending on the contest size and criteria.
You usually have to post a guess or start some sort of discussion about the answer to qualify for the contest. Most of the time, there's more than one winner, but the points are not split up if you win.
7. Refer Friends
No survey site is complete without a referral program. As you might have guessed, Toluna has one as well.
You earn 500 points for every person you invite to Toluna. You can only refer 10 people per month with the Toluna referral program.
This isn't the best referral program, and plenty of survey sites have $5 and $10 bonuses for new members. But it's nice that Toluna offers something.
Cashing Out & Toluna Rewards
Toluna pays you with Paypal cash or electronic gift cards depending on your preference. You need 30,000 points to cash out most Toluna rewards, which is worth $10.
Here are some of the Toluna gift cards you can redeem:
There are about 32 different rewards options that you can redeem on Toluna when you have enough points. Note that this is for Toluna US; different countries still have PayPal money and free gift cards, but you might have fewer options.

How Much Does Toluna Pay?
On Toluna 3,000 points is worth about $1. Most rewards require $10 to cash out, so this means you need approximately 30,000 points to cash out for your first time.
You can take a survey and get 5,000 points in about 10 minutes. However, Toluna doesn't have endless surveys to answer like platforms like Prime Opinion or Branded Surveys do.
The main drawback of Toluna is that you run out of surveys or high-paying surveys you actually want to do pretty quickly.
This means most people can earn 5,000 points in a day or so on Toluna. After that, you're better off using higher-paying survey sites like Survey Junkie and Pinecone Research.
In summary, Toluna pays an average of $1-2 per day and it takes a long time to rack up points.

Other Toluna Reviews
I signed up for Toluna to try it out. And after creating a profile and looking at some of its paid surveys, I think it's a legit platform that can help you make a bit of side money without much effort.
However, one of the best ways to tell if a beermoney website is worth using is to see what other real users are saying. So, what do other Toluna Survey reviews say?
Well, in a recent Reddit thread, several Redditors share their experiences with using Toluna to make money:
- warkingler777 says: “No problem. a little sideline, but to slow to earn but its okay.”
- autumninnovember says: “It’s legit but the survey count is too limited and very slow to earn.”
- wildneonsins says: “Used to do Toluna surveys (not sure if this is a new site),. Cashed out in the past but ended up with the surveys being too long & had too many screen outs, so stopped bothering with them.”
- Calobrena says: “It's a legit site. However, surveys are hit and miss. Most users earn their points from posting content and participating in site contests. Depending on the reward you want from the reward shop, it's going to take a while to get.”
As you can see, the consensus seems to be that Toluna is legit and pays users. However, it's a slow earner, and you run out of high-paying surveys pretty quickly.
Calobrena's advice is pretty spot on: you can use Toluna in addition to some higher paying surveys. But it shouldn't be your only option since other sites often pay more.

Other Websites Like Toluna
If you like the idea of Toluna but want more opportunities to make money online, you actually have plenty of options.
Some of the best sites like Toluna include:
- Branded Surveys: One of my favorite survey sites that lets you cash out at only $5.
- Pinecone Research (U.S.): Get paid $3 for every survey you complete with this leading survey site.
- Swagbucks: This site lets you make money by answering surveys, playing cash games, shopping online, installing apps, and more.
- Survey Junkie: Answer surveys and cash out with gift cards or PayPal money once you earn $5.
- InboxDollars: A versatile rewards site in the U.S. that also has an instant $5 sign up bonus.
- MyPoints: Answer surveys and shop online to earn rewards!
- HeyPiggy: A new PayPal survey site with a quick $5 cash out minimum.
- Triaba: A globally-friendly survey platform.
Again, all of these survey sites aren't going to revolutionize your finances. However, you can realistically earn an extra $20 to $100+ per month if you grind out some surveys with these platforms.

Final Thoughts: Is Toluna Worth It?
This Toluna review wouldn’t be complete without my honest opinion. And after testing out the site, I think I have a good idea of where it stands in the paid survey space.
The earning potential for Toluna is pretty low, so keep this in mind. But it's still a solid site to have in your toolkit.
Plus, you can always stack Toluna with sites like Prolific or Swagbucks that can make you nearly $5 per day. Between these sites, you have plenty of options for earning money online.
