While you can technically make bits of spare money with these sites, they certainly aren’t everyone’s cup of tea.

However, another way to get paid for sharing your opinion is to become a paid website tester.

Specifically, with TestingTime, a popular usertesting website, you can make up to 50€ per hour by testing software, websites, and products for companies like Microsoft, Logitech, and Deloitte.

But is TestingTime legit? And how much money can you make with this online side hustle?

I signed up for the website to find out. And my TestingTime review is sharing how it works, the requirements, and testimonials from other testers so you can decide if it's worth it.

TestingTime is a usability testing website that lets companies hire human website testers to test various software and other products for various companies. Examples of things you can get paid to test include:

• Websites
• Physical products
• Gadgets
• Food
• Software

The company was founded in 2015 in Zurich, Switzerland.

Since then, TestingTime has added over 600,000 testers to their database and worked with an array for Fortune 500 companies and other global brands.

Now, there’s plenty of ways to get paid to test websites and games.

For example, you can make money playing video games by testing new mobile games with PlaytestCloud. Similarly, apps that pay you to play games also let you earn free gift cards and PayPal cash for downloading and trying new apps.

However, TestingTime is definitely a more serious testing platform; you’re not testing mobile games, but rather websites and software from massive companies.

Thankfully, the hourly pay reflects this, so let’s dive into how to get started with TestingTime.

Is TestingTime Legit?

Yes, TestingTime is legit and pays you for completing user testing gigs for a variety of clients and industries. It works with many nationwide and global companies and has a track record of paying its testers on time.

It also has a high hourly rate in the world of user testing gigs. However, most negative reviews relate to how hard it is to get consistent testing opportunities.

At the end of the day, you can use TestingTime to make some quick cash. But don't expect it to replace your day job or make $3,000 a month or anything even close to that amount.

How To Make Money With TestingTime

I signed up for TestingTime to test out how the platform works and what the sign up process is like. Overall, the website is very easy to navigate, and it only takes four steps:

1. Meet TestingTime's requirements
2. Sign up
3. Claim and complete tests
4. Get paid

Time to dive into how it all works so you can decide if this online job is worth using.

1. Meet TestingTime Tester Requirements

The first step to make money with TestingTime is to ensure you meet their requirements. The good news is there aren’t really any concrete ones…TestingTime simply states that testers must be:

• Honest – answer questions truthfully and give your honest feedback.
• Reliable – Show up on time for testing sessions and be professional.

That’s it. You don’t need formal education, previous user testing experience, or anything like that.

2. Sign Up

The next step to make money testing with TestingTime is to actually sign up to be a member.

The sign up process asks you for your:

• Name
• Birthday and gender
• Country and time zone
• Languages you speak
• Highest education level
• Current employment status
• Phone and compute operating systems
• Email and phone number
• A picture of yourself

Once you agree to the privacy policy, TestingTime sends you a confirmation email you need to click on.

Once you do that, TestingTime asks you a series of more in-depth questions about devices you own, your specific type of smartphone, and more specific demographic questions:

You even answer questions about the car you drive, how often you take public transportation, and how many people live in your household.

This sounds like a lot, and the whole process takes 10 minutes or so to sign up. I found it was very simple and wasn't too personal or invasive when I signed up.

Ultimately, TestingTime needs to provide a demographic profile to their customers so they understand the type of user who is testing their website/product. This procedure is very common in the world of paid testing gigs, so don’t be alarmed!

3. Get Tests

Once you become a TestingTime user, you’re eligible to receive test opportunities.

TestingTime states: “Depending on your location and how many studies are currently available, you can expect to receive 1–2 emails from us per week on average.”

If you get an email invite, it asks a set of pre-screening questions to ensure you’re the right fit for the test. This is where some negative TestingTime reviews come from….just because you get an email, doesn’t mean you actually qualify to test and make extra cash!

If you match with a study, then you get to complete it and actually make some money.

Now, what you actually do during a test can vary depending on the company, product/website you’re testing, and timeframe.

TestingTime states that: “What you get to test will vary each time: You may be asked to try out websites and apps, give your opinion on product ideas or test physical products (e.g., snacks).”

However, all tests have a moderator who guides you through the test in a series of steps. It’s your job to provide honest feedback and think out loud during the test.

It’s also worth noting that some test sessions can take place in a physical location depending on where you live:

However, many gigs take place over the phone or Skype, so you can still find plenty of opportunities to earn money from home.

All of the information about a test gets spelled out for you in the invite email, and you don’t have to accept a gig if you don’t want to.

Note: most TestingTime sessions take between 30 and 90 minutes to complete.

4. Get Paid

Once you complete a testing session successfully, you provide your payment method of choice. Options include PayPal cash or direct deposit.

TestingTime pays you within 10 business days of completing a session. There aren't free gift card rewards, but in my opinion, getting paid with real money is the best scenario anyway.

How Much Does TestingTime Pay?

TestingTime states you can earn up to 50€ per hour as a paid user tester. But not every gig takes one hour, so you'll find many TestingTime gigs pay about $10 to $25 or so. But you can find longer testing opportunities that pay $50 or more if you're lucky.

However, there’s a few things to note.

Firstly, different gigs typically pay more than others. Here’s how it breaks down:

• In-person studies pay the most
• Phone or video call interviews pay the second highest amount
• Brief surveys (which are sometimes sent out) pay the least

Additionally, even TestingTime states you can’t quit your day job with the income you’ll make here. This is largely because how many tests you get invited to and qualify for is highly irregular.

So, some months, you’ll make $0. Other months, you might get lucky and make $30 to $100 or something like that.

It’s also worth noting that the main countries where testing jobs are available include Switzerland, Germany, France, Austria, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.

The main complain with TestingTime from users is the lack of testing opportunities:

Ultimately, I think TestingTime is just one of many websites you should add to your roster if you want to get paid to test things.

If you get an opportunity, awesome, but don’t expect a steady paycheck here.

Other TestingTime Reviews

After signing up for TestingTime, I think it's a nice way for beginners to make money online. However, I don't think it can make $100 a day or any sort of consistent income, and this is its main downside.

But one of the best ways to tell if an online gig is worth using or not is to see what other users have to say.

I also think it's important for this review. After all, I signed up for TestingTime, but I still haven't been able to claim a test invitation fast enough to make money with this platform.

Ultimately, signing up for both sites is the best way to maximize your income with this type of side hustle.

Final Thoughts

It’s highly unlikely you can ever quit your job to become a website tester. But, that’s not really the point of platforms like TestingTime.

If you like quality assurance work and want some extra cash, I think this is a worthwhile company to sign up for; especially for anyone in Europe!

If you want more control over boosting your income, you can always try side gig apps like delivering for DoorDash or using apps like TaskRabbit.

The bottom line is this is just one side hustle idea and you don’t have to limit yourself when it comes to making more money.
