Is Tellwut Legit Or A Scam? (Honest Review!)
If you ever search for easy ways to make money online, you’re going to come across survey sites that pay cash.
One lesser-known player in the paid survey space is Tellwut, a Canadian survey company that lets you earn free PayPal cash and gift cards.
But, is Tellwut legit? And how much can you really make with this survey website?
I signed up and tried out this website to find out. And my Tellwut review is covering everything you need to know about this survey site so you can decide if it's right for you.

What Is Tellwut?
Tellwut is an online survey platform that lets you earn points for answering questions, asking questions, and creating private surveys.
The company began in 2010, and Tellwut aims to provide accurate market research for companies who need actionable insights towards their products.
If you want to earn money online by answering surveys, Tellwut could be for you. There are also quite a few survey topics available, including categories like:
- Entertainment
- Sports
- Lifestyle
- Technology
- Pets
- Trivia
- Parenting
- Business
This is just a fraction of the options they have which can make answering the surveys more enjoyable.
Is Tellwut Legit?
Yes, Tellwut is legit and has been around since 2010 and isn't a scam. You can find payment proof online and positive reviews from users on Reddit. However, it doesn't pay very much, and this is where some of the negative reviews and complaints come from.
In fact, many Tellwut users on Reddit explain how the site is very slow to pay and that it's not one of the best survey sites out there. Here's two of them I found as an example:
Whether or not Tellwut is worth it depends on your demographic, effort into the site, and a few other factors. And, ultimately, this is an effective way to make money online as a beginner. But don't expect to earn a lot of money with this site or any paid survey website.
If you're interested in earning more, I think you're better off exploring different online jobs or freelancing since these options pay much more than sites like Tellwut.
How Does Tellwut Work?
I signed up for Tellwut to learn how the site works for this review. And like other survey sites, it's quite straightforward.
As long as you have a working phone or computer and a stable internet connection, you can get started with Tellwut. I found that the site was pretty easy to use when testing it out.
Tellwut works in six simple steps:
- Answer Tellwut Surveys
- Answer External Surveys
- Create Member Surveys
- Refer Friends
- Win Weekly Contests
1. Sign Up
You must be 18 or older to create a Tellwut account. Furthermore, you have to live in the U.S. or Canada and can only create one account per household.
To sign up, head over to tellwut.com and select “Create Account” in the top right bubble of the homepage.
You can either sign up directly through Facebook (which is a bit faster) or you can enter your information manually.
Creating an email and password for the site earns a 100 point sign up bonus, and we'll cover how points work later in our Tellwut Surveys review.
If you continue with the registration process by filling out some more personal information, you earn another 150 points. After signing up, you should have a total bonus of 250 points and can start taking surveys to earn rewards.
2. Answer Tellwut Surveys
Answering surveys is the main way to make money with Tellwut. And one of Tellwut's unique features is that it has more survey opportunities versus apps like Qmee or Swagbucks.
There are a few different survey types that you have access to when you make an account. The first, and most popular ones, are Tellwut surveys.
These are basic poll surveys where you answer a question between a couple of choices and it gets tallied into the results.
Tellwut surveys usually take a few seconds to complete. Think of it as an easy multiple choice question about your opinion on something.
Because they’re very short and easy to complete, Tellwut surveys only pay between 5-15 points per answer. However, there are a lot of them running around your dashboard so the points can add up quickly.
3. Answer External Surveys
External surveys are similar surveys to what you would normally see on other survey sites like Survey Junkie or InboxDollars.
These surveys are run by other companies or research organizations looking for insight on a specific product or idea. Surveys are also longer than Tellwut surveys and typically take between 5-20 minutes to complete.
External surveys pay anywhere between 25 – 2,000 points for each survey. This is the best way to make money with Tellwut.
You can find these in the “Available Surveys” section of the website. Tellwut also sends emails when you're eligible for external surveys.
Just note: the only way to be eligible for external surveys is by entering your demographics and other personal details during registration.
If your demographics match their target survey audience, you will receive one of these surveys. This is the same process companies like Pinecone Research use, so while these surveys can pay more, they aren't always available.
4. Create Member Surveys
Member surveys are surveys that you create for others to answer and gather information.
You can create one of these per week and essentially earn points by having other people answer your polls.
The average member survey earns you between 10-20 points. The catch is Tellwut needs to approve member surveys you submit to ensure you're asking meaningful questions. If you’re good at coming up with unique and thoughtful questions, this could be an easy way to make a few extra points per week.
This is also a pretty unique feature you don't find with most GPT websites, although member surveys don't pay many Tellwut points.
5. Refer Friends
The Tellwut referral program pays you 25 points for every friend you refer.
Keep in mind that you can’t refer other members of your household because you can’t have multiple accounts under one house.
For a survey site referral program, 25 points is pretty low. Usually, referral bonuses pay at least $1 to $2 and even give a percentage of lifetime earnings. For example, sites like GG2U and Grindabuck have lifetime revenue shares for inviting people, which is much better.
In this case, it’s not really worth it unless you actually want to refer a friend and think they'll enjoy this side hustle idea.
6. Win Weekly Contests
Every time you take a survey on Tellwut, you get one entry into a weekly cash prize that Tellwut draws at the end of the week.
These contests can earn you a ton of points if you win. Most prizes are around 4,000 points or so. However, there’s nothing special you can do to earn more entries or have a higher chance of winning.
This means your odds of winning a weekly Tellwut contest is pretty low, although if you get lucky, this is a nice feature.
Just keep answering polls, surveys, and creating your own surveys.

Tellwut Rewards And How To Cash Out
Tellwut requires 4,000 points to cash out a $10 gift card reward. If you want to cash out with PayPal, you need to earn 11,000 points, which is worth $25.
A $5 cash out minimum for gift cards is pretty decent. And Tellwut has a decent selection of gift card rewards, including ones to:
To redeem these gift cards, select the “Rewards” button near the top of the homepage and find the option you’d like to redeem.
Tellwut sends you electronic gift card codes after you redeem a prize. Usually, this takes around 30 minutes but can take slightly longer sometimes.
How Much Does Tellwut Pay?
Tellwut pays a few dollars per hour at most, and this survey site isn't very high-paying. There simply aren't enough survey opportunities to earn money consistently, so this is just a part-time online side hustle and not a full-time job.
Take a look at the breakdown of the math behind Tellwut points and what points are worth:
- $1 = 400 points
- $10 = 4,000 points
- Average minimum payout = $10
Basically, if you want to cash out with a gift card to companies like Amazon or Starbucks, you have to accumulate at least 4,000 points to redeem a $10 gift card.
Reaching 4,000 points isn't easy unless you’re seriously grinding out surveys on Tellwut. Even then, there’s no guarantee that you’ll get enough surveys within a week.
In reality, you can probably make $2.50 to $5 per week on average with Tellwut if you put in enough effort and also get enough external survey invites.

Other Tellwut Reviews
After trying out Tellwut, I think it's a legitimate survey site. However, I don't think it has very high earning potential and it isn't my number one choice for making money online. But it's always good to hear from other users and their experiences.
So, what do other Tellwut reviews say?
Well, unfortunately, Tellwut isn't super popular these days, and most beermoney fans use sites like MyPoints and Prolific instead. But, here's what two users I found on Reddit are saying about their experiences:
- User Gristix says: “Used to be good for a $10 Amazon gift card a month, but I stopped using it after they added the ‘participation' feature a few years ago that limits amount of polls you get if you don't comment or create polls.”
- Mikazah says: “I do the polls most days. It's not bad, but it's very slow. After a while they limit the number of polls per day you can do unless you do their surveys. Their surveys are low paying, so they're definitely not worth it. As for the polls, I've earned about 3k points (~$7.50) in roughly 5 months.”
As you can see, the consensus is that Tellwut pays a small amount of money and is also a slow earner. You can still make money with this survey site, but Tellwut isn't a premium survey platform.
Overall, I think sites like Branded Surveys or various paid gaming apps are better than Tellwut since they pay more per hour and are more consistent.
Pros & Cons
Pros:
- Easy sign up process
- Tons of survey categories
- Different ways to earn points
- Fun community of users
- More interactive than other survey sites
Cons:
- Low earning potential
- Outdated user interface
- No $10 Paypal cash out option
- Limited selection of rewards
- No survey app
In this case, the pros and cons are pretty equal in value. If you’re okay with the low earning potential, then give Tellwut a try.
The Best Tellwut Alternatives
In all honesty, Tellwut isn't one of the higher-paying survey sites out there. The main drawback is that there aren't always external survey opportunities, so your hourly earning potential is often very low.
However, there are plenty of other apps and sites like Tellwut if you want to make money online:
- Pinecone Research: Earn $3 for every survey you complete with this premium survey site.
- Branded Surveys: A leading survey website that has gift card and PayPal money rewards.
- Swagbucks: Earn rewards for answering surveys, playing games, shopping online, and even scanning barcodes.
- Mistplay: Earn free gift cards for playing new Android mobile games.
- Survey Junkie: Share your opinion and earn free gift cards or PayPal money and cash out at just $5!
- Toluna: Play games, answer surveys, and cash out quickly with this popular beermoney site.
- Kashkick: Get PayPal money for playing games and answering surveys.
Branded Surveys and Pinecone Research are definitely your best survey options. In contrast, platforms like Swagbucks are more versatile than Tellwut and also lets you cash out rewards at just $1.
Finally, apps like Mistplay are best if you like mobile gaming and want a bit of a fun side hustle to get free gift cards.

How Much Are Tellwut Points Worth?
100 Tellwut points are worth around $0.25. In other words, 400 points equals approximately $1.
Is Tellwut A Scam?
No, Tellwut isn't a scam, but this website doesn't pay very much. You can use it to make some quick money in your spare time, but it can take a long time to cash out. And this site won't replace your day job anytime soon.
Just have realistic expectations about how much you can make so you're not disappointed with this site.
Final Thoughts
Hopefully this Tellwut review helped you better understand whether or not Tellwut is worth it.
Like many survey sites, it has a low earning potential that is pretty unavoidable. The user interface is a little sloppy and the amount of time it could take to accumulate points is questionable.
If you’re still thinking of checking them out, it never hurts to give them a shot for a week and see how things go. However, just remember the opportunity cost of using survey sites to make money.
The time you spend on this site could be used to start your own online business, or to use side job apps like Instacart or DoorDash which pay much more per hour.
And, you can always try more lucrative laptop side hustles, like freelancing or blogging, instead of using Tellwut. At the very least, you can use it up until you cash out for the first time.
