As someone who makes all of my income from my laptop, I'm pretty sure I'm not going to work inside an office building anytime soon.
This is the case for many people around the world, and the reality is, more people are making money online than ever before.
And as a twenty-something-year-old man, if I have kids in the next several years, I think there's a good chance I'll be a stay at home dad because of this remote work lifestyle.
This trend of stay at home dad jobs has been growing in recent years, and increasingly, the decision to stay home and raise kids is less of a gender-role one and more of a financial one.
So I got to thinking: what are some of the best stay at home dad jobs, and how can other men find this sort of work? If you're wondering about good jobs for stay at home dads, this is absolutely the post for you!
The Best Stay At Home Dad Jobs
1. Blogger
I make most of my income from blogging, so if I became a dad tomorrow, I know this would be my number one stay at home dad job.
I think a blog is perfect because it's your business; you decide your work schedule, how many meetings you have, and who you work with.
Blogging can also be incredibly lucrative. For example, I've been blogging since 2018, and in 2022, my blog made $272,000 and now makes $1,000 a day or even more.
My YouTube video shares exactly how I make money blogging. And in terms of jobs for stay at home days, blogging is the type of job you can do while keeping an eye on little ones; all you need is a laptop and area to type and you're good to go!
And my favorite part about blogging is that you have a lot of options to make money, including:
- Running advertisements with companies like Mediavine and Monumetric
- Affiliate marketing
- Sponsored posts
- Selling online courses or your own products
- Offering online coaching
Mediavine and affiliate marketing are the two main income streams for my blog. And thanks to Mediavine, I make $300 a day or even more just from ad revenue alone.
The one downside of this job for stay at home dads is that it takes months or years to grow your blog into a business.
However, if you start a blog before you have a kid, you have time to nurture it into an income stream and decent passive income source.

Again, this isn't the best stay at home dad job if you need quick money. But if you're willing to grow a business that lets you earn income while raising your kids, I definitely suggest blogging.
2. Online Freelancing
Online freelancing is how I make most of my monthly income next to blogging. And overall, I think selling your skills online as a freelance is probably one of the most common ways to land a stay at home dad job.
Personally, I make money with freelance writing, and I have about five clients at the moment who provide me with steady work.
But freelance writing is just one freelancing field you can explore.
Other industries where freelancing is common include:
- Accounting and bookkeeping
- Digital marketing
- HR
- Graphic design
- Paid advertising specialist
- SEO
- Social media marketing
- Programming
- Recruiter
- Transcriptionist
- Travel agent
- Web design
- Video editing
One of the best parts about freelancing is that make fields easily pay $25 to $50+ per hour or more.
In fact, as you can experience, making $100 an hour isn't unheard of by any means. I even have some freelance writing clients where it works out to about this amount.
The toughest part with freelancing is finding your first clients, so again, try building this income stream on the side while getting ready to have children,
But you can always look on marketplaces like Fiverr or find jobs on Upwork or from your own network to get started.

If you like animals, another way to make money as a stay at home dad is to start a pet sitting business.
People need help looking after their dogs, cats, and other pets all the time. So, if you offer pet sitting or walking services in your area, you can start supplementing your income pretty easily.
And you don't have to find clients yourself and do all of the heavy lifting alone. For example, gig economy apps like Rover let you make money by helping pet owners in your area with pet walking and sitting.
Rover lets you set your own rates, the types of animals you work with, and your availability.
According to Rover, top walkers and sitters can earn $1,000 per month, and you're generally making around $15 to $25 per hour when it comes to walking.
As for sitting, it's a pretty passive side hustle, especially if you have a back yard where you can let dogs out for some fresh air. Alternatively, you can get paid to walk dogs and bring your kids along for some daily strolls!
4. Online Survey Taker
When it comes to online jobs for stay at home dads, taking online surveys is another very common suggestion.
I've also been making money with these types of get-paid-to websites for years ever since college. And while they don't make you rich, they're a pretty easy way to make a bit of extra money in your spare time, completely from home.
Several leading sites I've used and recommend include:
- Branded Surveys: A leading survey site with free PayPal cash and gift card rewards.
- Swagbucks: This site lets you make money by playing games, answering surveys, shopping online, and downloading apps.
- Kashkick: Another survey site that pays you with PayPal money for sharing your opinion.
- InboxDollars: A U.S. survey website that has a $5 sign up bonus to get you started.
- Toluna: Anothev survey site with a variety of earning options and fast payouts.
- Pinecone Research: Lets you earn $3 for every survey you complete and then cash out instantly.

Again, you probably won't make more than $20 a day with this method. But it's an easy way to make PayPal money or snag some free gift cards while you watch TV or relax.
5. Etsy Seller
Another stay at home job for dads you can consider is opening your own Etsy shop. This is honestly a great side hustle for couples as well, so don't be afraid to tackle this one with your spouse.
But what makes Etsy an excellent side hustle to run from your home is just how many things you can sell on the marketplace and how much potential Etsy has.
Starting an Etsy shop is also completely free, and you just pay $0.20 for listing products in your shop. And you don't even have to manufacture products yourself if that's too much work.
For example, you can try selling print on demand products on Etsy and work with a manufacturing partner instead.
This is actually how I tried making money with memes back in college when I sold meme POD mugs on Etsy.
But you don't have to sell mugs with this idea.
Etsy POD integrations like Printify let you upload your unique designs to over 100 products like:

6. Virtual Assistant
Another great stay at home dad job is to work as a virtual assistant.
Virtual assistants (VAs) help clients stay organized and run their own businesses. You're basically the same as an in-office assistant, except you work from home.
Examples of tasks VAs help clients with include:
- Booking appointments
- Email outreach
- Making travel arrangements
- Scheduling meetings with clients
- Social media management
You can find virtual assistant work yourself by reaching out to people in your network or looking on online job boards.
Micro task websites like Fancy Hands also let you apply to become a virtual assistant if you live in the United States.
Fancy Hands is a great starting point to gain experience as a VA, and with enough clients, you can turn VA work into a full-time income or decent side hustle.
I also think this is a great way to make money online for beginners, so don't be intimidated if you don't have any experience.
7. YouTuber
While this isn't a very common stay at home job for dads, I think making money on YouTube is another perfect example of how dads can make money while raising kids.
Like blogging, growing a YouTube channel takes some serious time and work.
For example, I started my channel in early 2020, and it took me a long time to pass 10,000 subscribers and to make decent money with YouTube.
But these days, my channel earns $800 to $1,000 per month in revenue, and this is all passive income for the most part.
What's nice about YouTube is that you make money through Google AdSense ads but also through affiliate marketing by placing links in your description box.
And even though it's a slow process, a single semi-viral video and propel your channel and get you up and running.
This is exactly what happened to me, and my most viewed video has over 500,000 views and has earned about $7,000 to date.
Some people also start a podcast while starting a YouTube channel, so you can explore this business idea as well.
8. Online Tutor
Another popular job for stay at home dads and parents in general is to make money with online tutoring.
There are plenty of online tutoring jobs for teens and college students. But this doesn't mean you can't tutor online as an adult as well.
As long as you're knowledgeable in a particular subject, there's a very good chance you can find some work as an online tutor.
Teaching English online is a perfect example, and companies like Qkids hire native English speakers to teach children around the world how to speak English.
Similarly, you can become a tutor on websites like BookNook if you live in the United States. This platform pays you to teach English and Math to elementary students, and it's completely online.
Some tutoring platforms require having a bachelor's degree, but many don't as long as you pass the initial interview session.
9. Customer Service Rep
If you have good communication skills and don't mind dealing with people, becoming a customer service representative is another perfect stay at home job for dads.
Being a customer service rep is also a common job that pays $15 per hour or more, and the barrier to entry is quite low.
Pretty much any major company hires customer service agents, and you can also apply to various call centers to find work.
Being a native English speaker is a huge help here, and even though this isn't the most exciting work, it can definitely help pay the bills.

If you have a passion for fitness, another way to earn money as a stay at home dad is to offer fitness instructors from your own home.
I actually know a gym owner from my own town who did this when he decided it was time to close down his gym and work less per week.
Basically, you can offer fitness classes from a make-shift studio in your own home.
Of course, you need the right space for this, and equipment like dumbbells, workout bands, yoga mats, and other fitness equipment is necessary.
However, a few regular clients per week can result in hundreds or over a thousand dollars in extra income per month.
After all, the average annual salary of a personal trainer is about $62,000 per year, so even doing this part-time could net some decent income.
Finding clients is the most difficult part of this, but it could be a natural stay at home dad job for you if you're already a PT and can get some of your clients to convert to at-home clients.

Depending on your city and how busy the market is, you can probably earn $50 to $150 per night if you rent out a room or spare unit.
And really, the main work you do as a host revolves around checking guests in and out and cleaning when they leave.
Of course, you have to ensure you're not letting party animals trash your home or keep your kids up until all hours of the night, so think carefully about the layout of your home and if Airbnb can actually work.

If you're already raising one or more kids at home, why not get paid to help babysit a few more?
Being an in-home daycare provider is probably one of the most common stay at home mom or dad jobs out there. In fact, when I was a toddler, I spent a lot of afternoons at a family friend's house where their mom did exactly that.
You really have to be good with kids for this one, and certain states or countries require certification and a license to do this.
But if you're struggling to find a stay at home dad job, this could be an easy side business to get up and running.
13. Start An At-Home Business
Have you ever wanted to start a business? Well, there's no reason you can't do this even if you're a stay at home dad.
I actually know a few people, including some dads, who run businesses from their homes. For example, one woman I know has a baking company, and she sells custom cakes, cookies, and other baked goods to people and for corporate events.
I know another person who runs a welding shop and sells direct to consumer through his Shopify store and on Etsy as well.
The point is that you can create and sell just about anything without leaving your home.
All you need is a niche idea and the ability to create your products. From there, you can use social media, local ads, and word of mouth to get your first sales.
People are doing this for all sorts of things, ranging from custom candles to apparel. There's no reason why you can't do the same while looking after your kids from home.
14. Amazon FBA Seller
One final job for stay at home dads is to flip stuff for profit through retail arbitrage.
Retail arbitrage involves buying popular products at a discount from clearance stores and then reselling those products online for profit. Sellers usually source inventory from big box stores like Kohl's and Walmart where discounts and sales are common.
Examples of popular products people sell through retail arbitrage include:
- Apparel
- Books
- Cosmetics
- Electronics
- Home goods
- Shoes
- Toys
- Watches
- Video games
Many sellers use Amazon FBA to sell on. This involves shipping inventory to Amazon so Amazon can fulfill orders whenever you make a sale.
Aside from Amazon, you can also use different selling marketplaces like eBay or Mercari to flip inventory on.
And if you don't mind in-person sales, selling on the Facebook Marketplace is another outlet you can try.
The main downside of this stay at home dad job is that it takes time and money to source your first batch of inventory. Plus, inventory can take ages to sell or not sell at all.
But this business is very scalable, and I actually interviewed a retail arbitrage couple who clear $1 million in revenue on Amazon FBA with their business.
But this is a decent job for stay at home dads because you can research products to buy and go shopping with your kids.
Again, don't pick this job if you need fast money or don't have some starting capital to buy inventory.
But for a scalable business that's more entrepreneurial, you can give retail arbitrage a try.
