What Is Rakuten Insight Surveys?
Rakuten Insight is a paid survey panel and market research company that's owned by Rakuten, a global ecommerce and advertising company. It lets everyday people make money online by sharing their opinions and completing short surveys.
If you've ever used sites like Branded Surveys or Pinecone Research, Rakuten Insight Surveys is going to feel very familiar.
It's completely free to sign up, and Rakuten Insight is available in 60 countries. It also has over two million members, making it a fairly popular survey platform.
Overall, if you want a flexible side hustle that lets you earn a bit of extra cash or some gift cards in your spare time, Rakuten Insight Surveys could be for you.
Is Rakuten Insight Legit?
Yes, Rakuten Insight is legit. The platform lets people from around the world earn cash and gift cards for sharing their opinions. And I was able to sign up and start answering its paid surveys without any issues.
The app also has a 3.5 star rating on the Google Play Store and 3.1 star rating on the Apple App Store. Overall, people seem to like this survey platform, although it doesn't have the highest rating out there.
Most negative Rakuten Insight reviews come from the fact that surveys don't pay very much and aren't always available. This means it can take a few weeks sometimes to reach the $5 cash out requirement.
However, this is often the case with other survey sites. Remember: Rakuten Insight is just an online side hustle, not a full-time online job or serious source of income.
How Does Rakuten Insight Surveys Work?
Rakuten Insights is very simple to use and easy to navigate. It took me about a minute or two to sign up, and the whole website works in four simple steps:
- Complete your profile
- Answer Rakuten Insight surveys
- Cash out
1. Sign Up
To sign up for Rakuten Insight you can visit them online, or download the Android or iOS app to register.
Registration is simple and takes only a minute or two. If you're okay with connecting your Google or Facebook account, it's an option to register and can make signing up even easier.
Currently, Rakuten Insight Surveys is available in 60 countries, including:
- China
- Canada
- France
- Germany
- Japan
- Indonesia
- Singapore
- The United States
- The UK
Age requirements can vary depending on your country. For example, you need to be at least 16 in the United States or get permission from your parents or a guardian before signing up. If it's not available in your area, check out our teen survey guide instead.
2. Complete Your Member Profile
Once you sign up for Rakuten Insights, you can answer a couple of short questionnaires to complete your member profile.
This step helps Rakuten Insight match you with more relevant surveys. Other gpt sites like Survey Junkie and Prolific do the same thing, so don't be too surprised.
You earn 50 points for finishing your member profile, and there are five topics you answer questions about:
- Basic
- Household
- Health
- Work
- Vehicle
All-in-all, this step should take about five to ten minutes at most. And completing it is important if you want to qualify for as many surveys as possible.
3. Answer Surveys
Rakuten Insight sends you emails and notifications when you qualify for a paid survey. You can also view and answer available surveys under the “Surveys” tab if you're logged in.
Most surveys pay around 25 to 100 points upon completion, which is worth $0.25 to $1. Surveys can take anywhere from around 5 to 20 minutes, which is pretty standard for these types of sites.
Disqualifications happen sometimes as with other survey sites. You get 1 point for disqualifications, which isn't much, but it's nice that you at least get something.
Paid surveys are also the only way to earn with Rakuten Insights. Competitors like Swagbucks and PrizeRebel offer other options, like watching ads or playing games for cash, so keep this in mind.
There's also an “invite and earn” referral program. However, I didn't qualify for it after signing up, and it's unclear how you unlock the ability to invite your friends to the platform to get paid.
4. Cash Out
Rakuten Insight lets you cash out once you earn 500 points, which is worth $5. Your reward options include PayPal cash or Amazon gift cards.
A $5 payout minimum is the same as sites like Branded Surveys and Ipsos iSay, so Rakuten Insight Surveys is fairly competitive. And I like that you can get free PayPal cash if you just want money.
Gift cards are sent electronically via email, and overall, Rakuten Insight keeps rewards sweet and simple.
How Much Does Rakuten Insight Surveys Pay?
When I tested out Rakuten Insight Surveys, my first two surveys paid a total of 7 points for about 3 minutes worth of work. While there doesn’t seem to be a great deal of surveys available, many seem to pay around the 30 points range. And some surveys also have ranges, such as 1 to 50 points, so you aren’t really sure the final pay amount until you finish.
Overall, this means you can probably earn a few dollars per hour at most with Rakuten Insight. But you might run out of surveys pretty quickly, so earning isn't too consistent. And it's not the highest paying survey platform in my opinion.
If Rakuten Insights had enough surveys to keep you busy for a full hour or two at a time, the totals might add up to respectable pay. However, with only occasional opportunities, it would take some time to earn enough points to cash out on this website.
Ultimately, I suggest using this site to make quick cash once in a while. But don't expect to earn steady income.
Pros & Cons
Pros:
- Globally available and owned by a reputable company
- Low cash-out threshold of $5
- You can redeem PayPal money and Amazon gift cards
- Low disqualification rate on surveys
- Many surveys are only a few minutes long
- Easy sign up process
- There's an Android app that pays you as well as the desktop version
Cons:
- Rakuten Insight doesn't have a sign up bonus like some survey sites
- Low number of surveys means low earning potential
- It can an take a long time to cash out
- The referral program is confusing and isn't available to everyone
Other Rakuten Insight Surveys Reviews
One of the best ways to tell if a money making app or website is legit or not is to read reviews from other real users about their experiences.
Thankfully, Rakuten Insights has 3.5 out of 5 possible stars on Google Play. Users seem fairly satisfied with their experiences and report being able to earn rewards and cash out. Common complaints include glitches in the app and few surveys available, which can make earning enough to cash out difficult.
Here is what a few other Rakuten Insight Surveys reviews have to say:
- “I have cashed out to my PayPal on a few occasions since I started using this app. Granted they don't offer unlimited surveys for you to do but the ones I am given I end up finishing them without being rejected. Also the surveys are very short and only take a couple of minutes to do. You won't become rich from it or make a living off of it but the extra money adds up in the end.”
- “So far so good I have a pleasant time with the surveys and received the payout to my PayPal and everything went well only thing is that there's not enough surveys to get the amount to cash out in a reasonable amount of time other than that I have enjoyed it please give surveys more frequently and I will be forever grateful.”
- “Incredibly buggy, repetitive and incentives are very much not worth the time it takes to earn.”
As you can see, users are pretty happy with Rakuten Insight and have been able to cash out. But as mentioned, it can take a while to cash out since surveys aren't always available and don't pay that much.
Overall, I think most people are happy with Rakuten Insight. But don't expect to make $100 a day or anything even close to that with this website.
The Best Sites Like Rakuten Insight Surveys
Since it can take a while to cash out with Rakuten Insight, I think it's best to mix in a few other survey platforms to earn rewards as fast as possible.
Some legit sites like Rakuten Insight Surveys that we suggest include:
- Branded Surveys: A leading survey site with free PayPal money and gift card rewards up for grabs.
- Swagbucks: This site lets you make money with paid surveys, trivia for cash games, shopping online, downloading apps, and more.

These websites aren't going to make you rich. But you can use them for a flexible, easy side hustle in your spare time.

It can take a few weeks to cash out depending on how many surveys you qualify for. This might cause some people to think the site is a scam, but this is ver common for survey sites.

Final Thoughts
I've been using Rakuten to get paid to shop for years, and this global company is legit. So, I'm not too surprised that its survey platform is also legitimate and helps people make extra money.
Will you get rich with this site? Absolutely not. But I hope my Rakuten Insight Surveys review helps highlight how much money you can make so you have realistic expectations.
Based on my experience, I see maybe a $1 to $3 per hour potential here if you regularly have quite a few surveys. Earnings will be lower if you don’t have surveys available or don’t get paid the maximum amount.
After trying out the site for this Rakuten Insight review , I don’t expect to make much, but I’ll keep it in my rotation of apps alongside sites like Branded Surveys and Ipsos iSay.
