Mode Earn App Review: Is It Legit Or A Scam?
Did you know that the average person listens to music 18 hours a week? But, wouldn't it be nice if you could earn passive income and get paid to listen to music for all the songs you stream?
Well, the Mode Earn app says it pays you to listen to music, take surveys, and to complete other easy online activities. And the company even has its own smartphone model with built-in tools to help people earn.
But is Mode Earn legit and a good way to earn passive income?
This Earn Mode app review is covering how the app works and testimonials from other users so you can decide if it's right for you.
What Is Mode Earn?
Mode Earn is an Android money app that pays users with small amounts of passive income for listening to music. Users can also get paid to play games, watch videos, answer surveys, and a range of other tasks.
Formerly known as Current Rewards, Mode Earn is one of the most popular reward apps in the music genre. And its website says that its users have already earned and saved over $150 million.
Aside from earning points for listening to music, here are a few other ways to earn with Mode Earn:
- Playing cash games
- Shopping online
- Charging your phone
- Watching videos
- Inviting friends to join
- Having the Mode Earn music player as a lock screen
- Entering sweepstakes
You can also buy an actual Mode Earn Phone device alongside using the app. I'll cover this phone in greater detail below, but this is one of the most unique selling points since I've never seen a rewards app that also has its own hardware.
Is Mode Earn Legit?
Yes, Mode Earn is a legit app that pays users to listen to music and complete a range of other microtasks. The app has a 4.3 star rating on the Google Play Store and over 10 million downloads, making it one of the most popular money-making apps on the market.
Users seem to like how many earning options Mode Earn has. And when we tested out Current Rewards in the past, which is what Mode Earn used to be called, we also liked how unique the app is versus many gpt sites.
Just note that like other phone side hustles, you can't earn a full-time income with this app. The company says you can earn up to $1,200 per year with its app, but I think earning $10 to $50 a month is more realistic if you put in a bit of effort.
How Does Mode Earn Work?
1. Listen To Music
The primary way to make money with Mode Earn is to listen to free music.
This app gives you access to a whopping 100,000+ radio stations from around the globe. As you play music, you gradually earn points that are redeemable for free gift cards and PayPal cash.
This is a nice way to earn money on autopilot as you listen to music. And the range of radio stations means you can definitely find genres and bands you like. However, don't expect as much control of customized playlists like you get with Spotify or major streaming services.
2. Complete Other Offers
As mentioned, the Mode Earn App lets you complete other tasks to earn rewards.
Some of the highest-paying offers include cash surveys, shopping rewards, and playing games for money. You can also earn points by downloading different apps or trying out various products and services from Mode Earn's partners.
The app also has some easy tasks, like checking into the app or setting Mode Earn as your lock screen. You can also earn referral bonuses by inviting people to download the app.
Most of these tasks are more active than the music offers. Also note that some tasks require spending money or signing up for new financial products or services, so read offer terms carefully.
3. Cash Out
Mode Earn lets you redeem earnings for PayPal money, free crypto, prepaid Visa cards, and a variety of gift cards to companies like:
- Amazon
- Google Play
- Macy's
- Starbucks
- Target
- Walmart
- Xbox
Many gift card rewards start at $5, and PayPal payments are available at $1. The point system is a bit confusing and different rewards require different amounts of points to redeem. But you can view all of the available rewards in the app and track your progress as you work towards them.
The Mode EarnPhone – Another Way To Earn
As mentioned, you can also purchase a physical Mode EarnPhone device to increase your earnings. Some of the hardware specs include:
- A 6.52″ HD screen
- 128GB of storage
- A powerful processor that supports mobile gaming
- Dual sim
- 4GB of RAM
- Fingerprint and FaceID technology
Mode Earn says its phone is free and also includes annual upgrades. However, you have to pay for an Earn Club Max membership which costs $4.99 per week. And you only get your free phone after six months of paying for this membership.
So in reality, you have to pay about $120 in membership fees before you get your “free” Mode EarnPhone. The phone includes unlimited talk and text, and it has built-in earning functionalities you find with the Mode Earn app.
Overall, the phone can be a decent choice if you're serious about making money with your phone. Just factor in the weekly membership cost to decide if it's worth it.

- Mode EarnPhone is available for more serious users

Other Mode Earn Reviews
The Mode Earn app is highly-rated on the Google Play Store with a 4.3 star review and over 2.5 million reviews, which is exceptionally high. And one great way to tell if a side hustle is worth using is to read testimonials from other users.
Here's what some users are saying in recent Mode Earn reviews:
- Abstract Schnitzel says: “Not a bad app. It has more radio station varieties than the actual radio, so that's nice. I wish I could stream certain artists additionally though, rather than only listening to radio mixes. Edit in 2023: It's not as good as it used to be. It's become more invasive, playing ads out loud in the middle of nowhere even when I'm not even on my phone.”
- Montanna says: “The app is buggy and crashes a lot. I have gotten points for some activities, but it isn't consistent. I have completed several Earn By Level challenges that are not reflected in the app, and I have not gotten points for them.”
- Steven Kyle Boyles says: “The app was good when it started but now not so much. It only tracks 20% of your tasks performed especially when it comes to sign-ups and installs, when you get paid they still keep 5-15% so you don't get the full amount you cash out for.”
- Michael Sorenson says: “Since I've been introduced to the app, it has been a success putting money in my pocket, but at a slow rate. If you are looking to make a quick buck this ain't for you!!! However,if you don't mind listening to your favorite music, artists and ect and earn just the extra pocket change to help get by, then this is for you!”
As you can see, recent reviews are quite mixed. Some users like using Mode Earn as a passive income app to make money by listening to music. But many people complain about app glitches and too many ads. Some users also report that points don't credit properly.
The Best Apps Like Mode Earn
In my opinion, Mode Earn is worth trying out if you want a passive way to earn while listening to music. And its active offers can also pay more.
However, you can also try some higher-paying apps and sites that also offer a variety of earning options, including:
- Rewarded Play: My favorite Android app that pays you with gift cards for playing games.
- Scrambly: A new gpt site with a variety of survey and gaming offers.
- Slice The Pie: Make money by listening to songs and rating them.
- Swagbucks: One of the most popular rewards websites in the world.
- Branded Surveys: A leading survey site with a fast $5 payment.
- S'mores: Another lockscreen app for Android devices.
- Cash4Minutes: This app also pays you to listen to radio stations and music.
- Kashkick: This site lets you earn PayPal money for playing games and completing surveys.
Tom also made a video covering some fun and unique websites you can use to get gift cards instead of using Mode Earn.
These apps won't pay anyone a full-time income. But if you want easy ways to get free money and gift cards, they're worth checking out.
Is Mode Earn Worth It?
Mode Earn is worth it if you want an easy side hustle that lets you earn quick cash by completing tasks on your phone. It's also a great app if you enjoy tasks like online surveys or playing real money games. And the Mode EarnPhone device could be worth it if you're a serious phone hustler.
That said, I don't think this app is worth it if you don't want to listen to music with it and prefer using platforms like Spotify or Apple Music.
Final Thoughts
I hope this Mode Earn app review helps you understand how this unique platform works and if it's worth using.
It's not everyday a reward app has its own smartphone as well. And when it comes to making money by listening to music, Mode Earn is one of the best apps out there.
That said, users seem to enjoy the passive earning options more than the active ones. So, consider the pros and cons I outlined in this article before adding Mode Earn to your side hustle stack.
