How To Make $2,000 A Month
1. Online Freelancing
In my opinion, one of the most realistic ways to make $2,000 a month is to sell your skills online as a freelancer. This is because freelance gigs often pay very high hourly rates, so you can reach this income goal fairly quickly.
I also know this is a realistic method since I've done this with freelance writing in the past.
Back in 2020, I was freelance writing on the side while working full-time at a marketing agency. But as my freelance income grew, I decided to quit, move to Colombia, and try writing and blogging full-time.
In just a few months, my income doubled, and I was making way more than $2,000 a month from writing. This is just a personal example, and I only needed a handful of steady clients to make more money than my old office job.
And writing is just one type of skill you can sell as a freelancer. Some other popular gigs include:
- Bookkeeping and accounting
- Graphic design
- Coding
- Digital marketing
- Social media management
- SEO
- Paid advertising help
- Project management
- Online tutoring
- Website design
- Video editing
- Voice over work
The list goes on, but you get the idea. And since many freelance jobs can easily pay $25 to $50+ per hour, you can probably earn $2,000 a month in about 40 hours of work or even less.
As for how you find clients, I always suggest asking your personal network for leads first since this is what's worked best for me. But you can also try using various remote job sites or looking for easy Upwork jobs to get your first clients.

2. Use Get-Paid-To Websites
I've been using get-paid-to sites ever since college to earn some side cash. And while you can't earn thousands of dollars a month with these websites, they're a super easy way to increase your income.
Some of the top sites and apps I recommend include:
- Freecash: Earn cash by playing games, completing surveys, shopping online, and downloading apps.
- Prime Opinion: A great global survey site with fast payouts.
- Five Surveys: Get paid $1 for every survey you complete and cash out at only $5.
- Kashkick: A U.S. cash survey site that also pays you to try new games.
- Branded Surveys: One of the leading survey panels with a fast $5 payout minimum.
- Survey Junkie: Another survey site that's available in North America and Australia.
- Swagbucks: A versatile rewards platform with dozens of ways to earn.
Again, I'd expect about $5 to $25 per day with these sites if you put in some effort. But this is an easy side hustle you can try on your lunch break or while watching some TV before bed.
3. Deliver Food For Money
Another way you can make $2,000 per month is to deliver food for money. And the great news is that there's plenty of gig apps you can use to get started.
For example, gigs like DoorDash pay you to deliver food to people in your city. You just need to be 18 or older to sign up, and you can deliver with a bike, car, or scooter.
And making $2k a month through delivery apps is possible. Just take a look at the YouTube video from Dasher Bellpeppa, who earns about $2,000 after 7 days of doing DoorDash.
Jobs like DoorDash are just one option. You can also deliver food for gigs like Uber Eats, Postmates, and Grubhub so you get as many orders as possible.
And this is just the food delivery space. You could also try delivering groceries for money with jobs like Instacart.
You probably have to grind some serious hours to reach your income goal. But it's certainly possible, and it's very easy to get started.

4. Virtual Assistant
If you have a high level of attention to detail and organizational skills, you can potentially earn some decent side cash by becoming a virtual assistant.
Virtual assistants, or VAs, typically help online business owners with various tasks like:
- Administrative work
- Basic bookkeeping
- Data entry
- Posting to social media
- Sending emails
- Scheduling appointments
According to Indeed, virtual assistants earn about $1,000 per week on average. This means you can make 2k a month as a part-time virtual assistant pretty easily.
Finding your first few clients can be tough. But I have some friends who are VAs and have hired several myself, and let me tell you, word of mouth is everything!
So, try landing a blogger or online business owner as a client. If you do well, I wouldn't be surprised if you can land a few more clients just through referrals.
5. Start A Blog
Starting a blog is an incredible way to diversify your income. And this is also a business model that I know works because I've passed the 2k a month income milestone on WebMonkey. In fact, the blog now makes about $20,000 a month and has been growing slowly year-over-year.
My favorite part about blogging is the number of ways you can monetize.
For example, WebMonkey makes money with Mediavine ads and affiliate income. It can usually make $500 a day in ad income alone, and this is largely passive income at this point.
This is just my blog. I know plenty of other bloggers who make money by selling coaching, online courses, products, and sponsored posts.
And reaching $2,000 a month with a blog is a very realistic goal. I achieved this in my third year of blogging, but I think it can be done much faster if you learn some basic search engine optimization (SEO) and produce quality content.
6. Start A Service-Based Business
Starting a service-based business is a pretty simple concept. Just offer a service people are willing to pay for, and then go door-to-door to promote your new side hustle.
Some examples of popular service-based businesses you can start include:
- Babysitting
- Cleaning
- Catering
- Pet sitting or grooming
- Personal training
- Landscaping
- Painting
- Window washing
- Junk removal
- Snow removal
You get the idea. And if you're charging $25 to $100+ per gig depending on the service, making $2,000 a month only requires a handful of clients.
Some of my friends have made great money by doing landscaping or cleaning during the summer when we were in college. And I have plenty of friends who make excellent money babysitting a few nights a month.
7. Deliver Packages For Money
Like food delivery gigs, another way to earn $2,000 a month is to get paid to deliver packages.
Plenty of companies and peer-to-peer platforms let you deliver packages for people and businesses to make quick money. And there are some particularly lucrative opportunities if you have a cargo van or truck.
Several popular delivery jobs you can try include:
- Amazon Flex: Earn up to $18 to $25 per hour delivering packages for Amazon.
- GoShare: Make money by delivering packages for people and businesses in your city.
- Roadie: Another job like GoShare where you get paid to deliver packages.
- Gopuff: This job like Amazon Flex pays you for delivering food and everyday essentials to people.
Delivery jobs can be a little less steady than food delivery gigs, but the pay is often higher per hour.
This is especially true for Amazon Flex, which pays an excellent hourly wage but can be tricky to get enough blocks of delivery time.
8. Do Odd Jobs For Cash
If you're willing to hustle and help people in your community, you can always do local cash gigs and odd jobs to try and make fast money.
I've done this before during college to make some extra money. And you'd be amazed at what sort of jobs you can find on simple places like Craigslist.
For example, I've made money shoveling driveways for people before. And if you look for Craigslist cash jobs, you'll find plenty of gigs for things like cleaning, moving help, landscaping, and junk removal.
A lot of jobs pay $50 to $100, so you can make $2k between these sorts of odd jobs and another side hustle on this list.
My article on the best odd job apps also has plenty of other websites and apps you can use to find some nearby cash gigs.
9. Flip Things For Profit
Feeling a bit entrepreneurial? If so, one way to make $2,000 a month is to flip your money by buying and reselling things for profit.
Flipping is one of the most classic side hustles, and the concept has basically existed since we've had money. You also have plenty of ways to get started, although retail arbitrage is one of the most common methods.
With retail arbitrage, you purchase popular products from retailers like Kohl's, Macy's, and Walmart to then resell online.
Many sellers focus on selling through Amazon FBA, a fulfillment service by Amazon. But you can also sell your products on online marketplaces like eBay or Mercari. Local sale sites are also on the table.
As you sell your inventory, you can reinvest some profit into more inventory, slowly scaling your flipping business over time.
And you can make 2k a month or more with this model. In fact, I interviewed a couple who run a million dollar retail arbitrage business, so I know it's possible.
As for what you sell, people often sell products like clothing, electronics, toys, homegoods, and shoes. But any popular product you purchase at a discount can work!
Some sellers also buy things in bulk to resell, like basic office supplies or cleaning products. There are plenty of niches that work, so don't be afraid to explore.
Just note that scaling this type of business can take a long time. So if you need $2,000 fast, I don't suggest retail arbitrage.
10. Create Passive Income Streams
If you want to earn 2K a month but don't have many hours to work, you can explore different passive income ideas instead to begin building wealth.
Personally, I think passive income is amazing. It's something I've been experimenting with for years, and I think it's certainly possible for anyone to get started.
Some of my favorite passive income ideas include:
- Investing in dividend stocks and ETFs
- Investing in income-producing real estate with crowdfunding companies like Arrived (U.S. only)
- Making money on autopilot with a niche blog (I've started a new blog to test out this idea!)
- Using different passive income apps
- Renting out a spare room or house on a platform like Airbnb
- Renting out things for profit
- Renting out extra storage space with a company like Neighbor
At this stage, my main passive income sources are a niche blog, dividend stocks, and WebMonkey to some extent.
But there are plenty of ways to create passive income, and you can slowly reinvest income to fuel growth.
11. Start An Ecommerce Store
I worked in paid advertising and ecommerce for a few years. And let me tell you; ecommerce businesses have very high income potential and can scale incredibly quickly.
Take something like Etsy for example. It's an online marketplace where setting up your store is completely free. And you can sell a variety of products, including clothing, jewelry, crafts, art, and home goods.
This video from Hannah Gardner also provides some insight into the income potential of something like Etsy. In fact, she made almost $1 million in her first year selling on the marketplace.
I also tries selling Etsy print on demand products as one of my college side hustles, and the process was very easy to start and a pretty fun side hustle.
Of course, you can also launch an ecommerce store on platforms like WordPress or Shopify. Ultimately, you need to pick a niche and platform that makes sense for you.
But ecommerce has massive potential. And making $2,000 a week or month is certainly possible.
12. Make Money On YouTube
One final idea you can try is to make money with YouTube.
This is also one idea I'm testing and slowly chipping away at. I started my own YouTube channel back in 2020. Since then, it's grown to over 15,000 subscribers and makes about $30 to $50 a day in ad revenue.
This is a bit over halfway to making $2,000 a month. But I like YouTube since videos from years ago can still get views and generate income.
I didn't spend much money to start my channel either. I bought a beginner camera for about $500 and a cheap USB microphone.
I also think YouTube and blogging are a great combo since each platform can promote the other. And the income potential is immensely high.
Tips For Getting Started
Now that you know some ways to make $2,000 a month, here are a few strategies you can keep in mind to help increase the odds of success:
- Play To Your Skills: I stick with writing, blogging, and YouTube for my income sources since I think this is where my skills shine. Think about your own skills, and pick side hustles that match them!
- Try Several Ideas: Testing a few side hustles is an excellent way to discover what you enjoy and what works best. So, don't be afraid to start an ecommerce store, deliver for DoorDash, or to blog. You'll find what makes the most money for you over time.
- Set Smaller Goals: Earning $2,000 a month is a large goal. But you can make it more manageable by breaking things down into small tasks. Maybe you start by making $40 a day, then $50, and eventually build up to the $2,000 goal.
