Is Word Roamer Legit? (My Honest Review!)
There are plenty of apps out there that claim users can earn extra cash while playing fun games in their spare time.
The Word Roamer app, available on the Apple app store, is one of these apps. In fact, it says you can earn real money while training your brain to be agile, enriching your vocabulary and improving your memory of words.
In theory this sounds great, and Word Roamer's advertisements show players earning hundreds or even thousands of dollars.
But is Word Roamer legit? Or is it just another scammy app that will waste your time and leave you wanting to hurl your phone at the wall?
I downloaded Word Roamer to find out. And my Word Roamer review is covering everything you need to know to decide if this side hustle is worth it.

What Is Word Roamer?
Word Roamer is a free iPhone money game that says it pays users real cash for completing word puzzle games.
The Word Roamer app has over 7,000 ratings and a 4.1 star rating. And the app is one of the most popular puzzle crossword games on the Apple app store.
The app is similar to other word games that pay money like Words to Win and Island of Word. And Word Roamer is also very similar to an app called Word Cash, which has since been taken down from the app store.
And the idea is that you can complete word search and puzzle games in your spare time to earn rewards.
From the start, Word Roamer seems a bit too good to be true. Its advertisements show players earning $100 in PayPal cash or even thousand dollar prizes.
The app also makes the lofty claim that “people who play this game for 15 minutes a day have an IQ higher than 120”.
Is Word Roamer Legit?
No, Word Roamer isn't legit since it's impossible to cash out your earnings. Word Roamer's advertisements make it look like it's easy to earn money by playing the game. But in reality, the app just wants you to play the game and watch advertisements so the developer makes money.
After playing Word Roamer, I don't think it's a worthwhile way to make money online. And I can’t find any evidence that anyone has actually successfully cashed out playing this game.
In fact, in every review I’ve read, people have expressed extreme frustration over having wasted hours and even months on the app without being able to cash out.
As players get closer to the cashout threshold, Word Roamer pays them fewer and fewer virtual dollars, and serves them more and more ads. The few players who were actually able to get within 10 cents of the payout threshold reported the game crashing repeatedly.
Word Roamer also falls short on the quality of graphics and interface compared to the flashy, high quality video clips dispalyed in its advertisements. Many reviewers claim that the app’s graphics and gameplay look nothing like what is shown in the ads.
My consensus is that if you’re looking for a fun and simple word game to pass the time, and perhaps even improve some linguistic skills, you may enjoy this game. But if you want a reliable puzzle game for money and way to earn money with your phone, run the other way!
How Does Word Roamer Work?
Word Roamer is a very simple money-making app and takes four simple steps:
- Download the app
- Complete Word Roamer games
- Earn virtual currency
- Cash out
The app is very simple to use, but I'll explain how each step works in a bit more detail.
1. Download The App
To play Word Roamer, download the app for free on the Google Play store on an Android device. You don't have to sign up or agree to any unreasonable permissions with this app to begin playing.
2. Play Word Roamer
After downloading the app, click ‘level one’ to begin.
The game is pretty intuitive and works like a shifting word search puzzle. To play, you identify and swipe hidden words within a block of lettered tiles.
When you successfully swipe a word, those blocks fall, Tetris style, and rearrange the puzzle. You can swipe words from left to right or from right to left. Once you find all the words and there aren't remaining tiles, you receive virtual cash rewards in your wallet and advance to the next level.
You can also earn extra ‘coins’ along the way for finding bonus words.
Players can choose to use tools and hints to aid in finding words, but will need to either pay with some of the virtual coins they’ve earned or watch a video ad.
However, Word Roamer also shows a video ad every two or three levels no matter what. Showing ads to players is how Word Roamer makes money, and these apps aren't immediately skippable, which is a downside.
3. Earn Virtual Currency
As you advance through the levels, Word Roamer rewards you with virtual cash in your wallet.
“Virtual” is the key word here. In the app’s Terms and Conditions, it clearly states that “Tokens and Coins” earned within the game are not a real currency with real world value.
However, your virtual currency adds up quickly. This makes your early experience with Word Roamer exciting, until you realize the difficulties with cashing out that I'm about to explain.
4. Cash Out
Word Roamer has a minimum cash out requirement of $150 virtual dollars. This is incredibly high for any gpt site or app and is a pretty major red flag.
Additionally, in my experience and from other Word Roamer reviews, you earn money very quickly in the beginning. This is how the app hooks new users since you think you're making a lot of money with the app.
However, as you approach the $150 cash out threshold, it pays you way less. In fact, earnings slows to a snail's pace, sometimes paying only 2 cents every 10+ levels. One user I saw a review from even reports reaching level 1100 without being able to cash out yet!
This is the same trick apps like Money Quiz use, which is super misleading…Carrot on a stick, anyone?
Does Word Roamer Pay Real Money?
No, Word Roamer doesn't pay real money. The app pays you a lot of virtual currency early on but it's rigged to make it impossible for players to reach the $150 cash out threshold.
Legit game apps that pay cash usually have payout thresholds in the $5 to $10 range. For example, Mistplay and JustPlay are two platforms that let you earn gift cards and PayPal cash in your spare time.
But with Word Roamer, I can’t find a single example of someone successfully cashing out using this app.
Other Word Roamer Reviews
One of the best ways to tell if app that pays you to play games is legit or not is to see what other people have to say about their experiences.
Here are a few recent Word Roamer reviews from the Google Play store, which are more or less echoed by hundreds if not thousands of other reviewers:
- Sean N Jossie says: “Horrible. The game was going fine. Loved it. Until I was $0.45 away from cashing out. Then, all of a sudden, the game started glitching and kept closing me out of it. After messing with it for an hour, I finally was able to play until I got down to 29 cents away. The came stopped giving me money for the levels I was completing and eventually stopped working all together, with an alert from my phone stating the app had a bug and could no longer load. IT'S A SCAM. STAY AWAY!”
- Draycos Dragon says: “I've been stuck at $149.95 for over 40 levels now (since level 148) and I've gotten LITERALLY NOTHING since then (currently at level 194). It seems to have stopped giving me literally ANYTHING.”
- Amanda Wells says: “Game is quite fun but the longer you play, the more ads and the less “payout” there is. The minimum amount before payout is $150 and it stops giving any money for anything once you are within a few pennies of reaching it. Pretty much all of these are scams, not much surprised by that. The game itself is fun, if there were not so very many ads.”
I was determined to find some of the elusive 4 or 5 star reviews since almost every review I read claimed the app was a scam.
As I suspected, anyone that ranked the app 4 stars or higher was either writing the review prematurely or was more focused on the ‘fun puzzle solving’ aspect versus any real money making potential.
I think these negative reviews highlight how Word Roamer is pretty scammy and isn't a good way to earn extra money.

The Best Word Roamer Alternatives
Since it's impossible to cash out with Word Roamer, I don't think this app is a very good side hustle.
However, there are numerous, legit alternatives you can use to earn rewards in your spare time like:
- Cash Giraffe: My favorite Android cash gaming app.
- Cash Cow: A new Android gaming app that has excellent game variety and free gift card and cash prizes.
- Money Well: Another Android gaming app with gift card and PayPal cash prizes.

- Rewarded Play: Another popular gaming app like Mistplay that lets you earn free gift cards.
- Match To Win: A better puzzle game that lets you earn cash and gift cards.
I also made a video sharing some of my favorite games to win real money that you can use instead of wasting time with Word Roamer.
Branded Surveys and Swagbucks are great starting points if you want to share your opinion for cash. But if you enjoy mobile gaming, I'd suggest Rewarded Play or Mistplay first.
Is Word Roamer A Scam?
Yes, I believe that Word Roamer is a scam since it gives people the false hope of earning real cash rewards. In reality, the app makes it impossible for users to reach the minimum cashout amount, resulting in hours of wasted time and frustration.
Is Word Roamer Worth It?
If you’re simply looking for a word game to help pass the time and possibly sharpen your word identification skills a bit, Word Roamer might be worth it. However, you may be better off with a less spammy app with fewer ads.
If you’re looking for an app to help you earn money, I firmly believe that Word Roamer isn't worth using.

Final Thoughts
I hope my Word Roamer review helps you understand how this app works while highlighting the fact that it's impossible to actually earn money.
There are so many negative Word Roamer reviews. And it's impossible to find payment proof online. If you want a free word puzzle game, you can give it a try. But there are way better beermoney sites and apps that actually pay.
