Is Steady Legit? My Complete Review
Have you ever wished your income was a little more steady?
Well, one of the most popular gig apps out there, Steady, promises to help you do just that. And the app makes it easy to find new side hustles in your area that match your skills and goals.
According to its website, its members make an additional $5,500 per year on average in extra income. But is Steady legit? And does this app actually help you make more money?
I've used Steady in the past and been writing about this app and the gig economy for years. And my Steady review is sharing how it works, its pros and cons, and if it's ultimately worth using.

What Is Steady?
Steady is a side hustle app that helps its members “steady” their incomes by helping them find new side gigs and income opportunities.
The company began in 2017 and was founded by Adam Roseman. Since then, the app has grown to millions of members and attracted celebrity investors and endorsements from the likes of Shaquille O'Neal.
At its core, Steady helps people find new side hustles with its side hustle quiz tool. But the app also has a range of part-time, full-time, and bonus income opportunities.
Additionally, the app has different financial tools and resources, helping you track your income as you work towards your financial goals.
If you want to make quick money, the app is a useful resource. And I like that it has numerous tools to help members make more money and then accomplish their goals.
Is Steady Legit?
Yes, Steady is legit and helps its members find new income opportunities. The company also has over 6 million members and claims that its members earn $5,500 in additional income per year on average.
After testing out Steady, I like that it has a variety of side hustles, including full-time and part-time work. And the app even has sign up bonuses and other ways to get free money under its income opportunities tab.
The main downside of Steady is that many side hustles it recommends are the most popular ones you probably already know about; think survey sites and driving gigs. So, experienced side hustlers might not find much new information.
But if you're new to hustling and also want to track your income and progress, Steady is worth using.
How Does Steady Work?
I downloaded Steady to test out the app for this review, and it's incredibly easy to use and takes six steps:
- Download the app and sign up
- Search for new side hustles
- Use Steady's income boosters
- Track your income
- View employer insights
- Invite your friends
Here's how each of these steps works in more detail.
1. Download & Sign Up
Steady is free and is available on Android and iOS. The app is only available in the United States at this time, and you sign up with your email address or by connecting your Facebook account.
Once you register, you enter your Zip code so Steady can find local income opportunities. You also answer a short questionnaire that includes questions like:
- If you want to save money on bank fees
- If you're interested in home or auto insurance
- If you want to invest for daily income
- If you need to improve your credit score
- If you currently have an emergency fund
- If you want passive income
After you complete this quiz, Steady immediately presents you with some offers from various partners.
For my account, Steady recommended several high-yield savings accounts, the Acorns investing app, and a few online brokers. I think this is because I told the app I want more investing products.
You don't have to sign up for any of these offers, but this is one of the main ways the Steady app makes money.
2. Find New Side Hustles
The main reason to use Steady is to find new hustles and gig jobs.
You can search for these opportunities under the “Find Work” tab. Currently, Steady offers five types of gigs:
- Full-time work
- Part-time work
- Gig economy jobs
- Online income opportunities
- Newly-added gigs
The jobs and hustles Steady recommends depends on which category of work you're looking for.
For full and part-time gigs, Steady does an excellent job at finding businesses in your area that are hiring. Typically, this means finding jobs in caregiving, retail, manufacturing, and hospitality.
As for the other categories, Steady recommends many popular hustles, including gigs like DoorDash and Instacart, Amazon Flex, and Neighbor.
Steady matches you to these gigs by asking you even more questions, including ones about your education, the languages you speak, and if you have access to a vehicle.
I like how personalized the gig job results are based on this information. My only gripe with the app is that the make money online offers are pretty generic and mostly include gpt sites, call center jobs, transcription sites, and similar low-paying online hustles.
3. Use Steady Income Boosters
Finding new online and in-person gigs is the main way Steady helps members make more money. However, the app also has an “Income Boosters” tab where you can find companies that pay you free money for signing up.
Some of the income boosting opportunities in my app include:
- $15 from the Acorns investing app
- $20 if you open a high-yield savings account with Current
- $55 if you open an Aspiration credit card
- $50 if you open a Varo debit card
- $20 if you become a Neighbor host
- $20 if you sign up for DoorDash or Uber Eats
This is a nice way to score some free cash. However, many Steady Income Boosters require spending money on certain services or opening new bank accounts or credit cards, so this might not be for everyone.
Be sure to read the details for any booster offer and make sure you are okay with all the fine print before you commit.
4. Track Your Income
Members can connect their bank accounts to Steady to begin tracking their income. And I like that Steady can identify side hustle income and regular income and highlight your extra earnings that the app is helping you make.
What's cool is that Steady also has a unique tool, its Income Passport, that uses your financial data to create a paystub of all your gig and 1099 income.
This PDF download helps gig workers track their income and expenses like mileage and vehicle repair more accurately. If you're applying for grants, scholarships, or loans, this information can also be incredibly helpful.
Steady's Income Passport is also useful during tax season. Overall, I love that the app is adding in new tools to help independent contractors with their finances.
5. Employer Insights
This tab provides more information about specific companies like average weekly pay and payment frequency to help you find the right gig.
I really like this feature since it helps you find side hustles that can match your income goals. It's also useful if you want to find same day pay jobs or if you're alright with getting paid weekly or bi-weekly.
6. Invite Your Friends
One final way to make money with the Steady app is to earn referral bonuses by inviting your friends to join.
At the time of writing, you get a $5 bonus if a friend you invite joins the app and completes their profile. And you get a $25 bonus whenever you reach 10 successful invites.
Your invites have to connect their bank account to Steady for the invite to count, so keep this in mind. But this is a nice opportunity to snag some free money without much effort.
How Much Does Steady Cost?
The basic version of the Steady app is free to download and use. You can also upgrade to Steady Premium for $1.99 to unlock perks like Employer Insights, a high-paying jobs category, the Steady Income Passport, and more financial tracking tools.
Personally, I don't think Steady Premium is worth paying for unless you can make use of the Income Passport. After all, the free version has most of the core features like its job search and side hustle questionnaire.
What Types Of Jobs Are On Steady?
Some of the jobs and gigs I found while testing out Steady include:
- Food delivery gigs like Uber Eats or DoorDash
- Rideshare gigs like Lyft
- Dog walking gigs like Rover
- Retail jobs at companies like CVS, Publix, and Walmart
- Package delivery gigs like Amazon Flex
- Call-center gigs
- Cash surveys from platforms like Branded Surveys and Swagbucks
- Sign-up bonus opportunities
- Grocery delivery gigs from companies like Shipt and Instacart
To apply to jobs, simply tap on the opportunity. Steady then redirects you to the sign-up page for that company.
Pros & Cons

- Steady is very easy to use
- Available for both Android and iOS devices
- Full-time, part-time, and temporary gigs are available to fit a variety of work styles and needs

- Helps you track your income and expenses
Cons:
- Steady Premium costs $1.99 per month and unlocks many income tracking tools
- Some lackluster online job results
- Only available in the United States
- Some of the income boosters require funds or a financial commitment
- No desktop version
Other Steady Reviews
After exploring the Steady app, I think it's one of the highest-paying apps in the gig economy space since it connects members to so many opportunities. And I like that the app keeps adding new features like its Income Passport.
But one way to tell if a money-making app is worth using is to read reviews from other users.
For starters, Steady is highly-rated with a 4 star rating on platforms like TrustPilot. Users seem happy with the variety of ways to make money and being able to make money online.
Here are some recent Steady reviews on Trustpilot from other users:
- “I’m unemployed and completely down and out and I figured I would look at the income boosters and found one that seemed fairly easy and quick to complete. So I did complete it yesterday, and today I already received my $25 from Steady for completing the income booster!”
- “Overall, the concept of this application is amazing! You can organize how you like, and do the activities that interest you. The platform has many offers and you can make a steady buck doing things you already do.”
- “So far steady has been a great resource to find available jobs in my area. The convenient “work from home jobs” is particularly my favorite. The income boosters are the icing on the cake!”
As you can see, these users are happy with the Income Boosters and how many job opportunities the app highlights. And one user likes the fact that the app also has online opportunities.
This Steady app review from YouTuber Marcel also shares how the app works and walks you through the steps of finding a gig with the app.
Marcel likes the Income Boosters and the variety of gigs. Although he acknowledges that the app probably won't replace anyone's main income source and is just a side gig.
The Best Apps Like Steady
If you like the idea of making money with Steady, you're in luck.
There are plenty of excellent Steady alternatives. Some of my favorites I've tested out over the years include:
- TaskRabbit: One of the most versatile gig marketplaces where you can find quick cash gigs.
- FlexJobs: My favorite way to find flexible and remote jobs and opportunities.
- JobGet: Another on-demand job app you can use to find part and full-time work.
- Uber Eats: One of the leading food delivery gigs in the world.
- Wonolo: A U.S. gig app that helps you find temporary work in construction, hospitality, manufacturing, and retail.
- Instawork: This app is similar to Wonolo and Steady and helps you find temporary gigs.
I also made a video ranking a bunch of different side hustle ideas you can watch for even more ideas.
I think Steady does a great job at getting side hustlers started on their journey. But you can always create a side hustle stack with some of these popular apps to find the combination that works best for you.
Is Steady Worth It?
Steady is worth it if you need a helping hand with finding new side hustles and jobs. And the free version of the app has everything you need to begin making more money.
However, I don't think the app is worth it if you want to find a digital side hustle. This is because most of Steady's online recommendations are just common survey sites, reward apps, or low-paying opportunities.
Personally, I think freelancing online or using remote job sites like FlexJobs can yield much better online income opportunities than Steady.

Is Steady Safe?
Yes, Steady is safe, and the app uses Plaid to securely connect to your bank account to track your income. This is the same technology major FinTech companies like Acorns and Venmo use, and Steady doesn't sell your data to third parties or save your login credentials.
You can read more about Steady's commitment to security in this blog post on the company website.
How Does Steady Make Money?
Steady makes money by earning affiliate commission from the gigs and income boosters it recommends to people. The app also makes money through its $1.99 monthly Steady Premium membership.
The fact Steady gets paid to promote different gigs and sign-up bonuses is important to know for users. This is because Steady might not always put members first since it's getting paid by certain companies to recommend them as jobs.

Final Thoughts
When you need money and are trying to find a new side hustle, it can often be overwhelming with all of the different opportunities out there.
The Steady app is a way to review multiple gigs and learn about ways to get money now all in one place. And I like that it has a variety of fun side hustles and full-time roles that are both in-person and online.
The app definitely has fewer opportunities if you live in a rural, remote area versus a city. But the variety of hustles and personalization are selling points.
I don't think Steady Premium is worth it. But you can always test out this membership if you want to track your income and use some of the app's more advanced tools.
In any case, I hope my Steady review helps you decide if this app is worth your time or not.
