Is MyPoints Legit?
MyPoints is legit and lets you earn cash and gift cards by completing a range of online tasks. It also has a 4.4 star rating on Trustpilot with over 23,000 reviews, and there's plenty of payment proof online.
I've personally cashed out with MyPoints in the past and can verify that it pays on time. Overall, it's a very popular side hustle in the survey site space. And while it won't let you quit your full-time job, you can earn money online for free and without having any skills.
What Is MyPoints?
MyPoints is a popular get-paid-to website that lets you earn PayPal cash and gift cards in your spare time by completing short online tasks.
The website is owned by Prodege, which also operates popular survey sites like InboxDollars and Swagbucks. And you can sign up for MyPoints if you live in Canada and the United States and are 13 or older.
The company has also been in business since 1996, making MyPoints one of the long-standing players in the survey and gpt space.
If you want an easy online side hustle, MyPoints could be for you. But let's take a look at how the website works, what the earning options are, and how much you can actually make.
How Does MyPoints Work?
After using MyPoints for the last few years, the platform has continued expanding the ways you can earn rewards.
This is one element I really like about MyPoints. If you just want to answer surveys for cash, you can do just that. But there are also plenty of other ways to earn points, which you then redeem for gift cards and cash.
1. Sign Up
You can sign up for MyPoints if you're 13 or older and live in North America. All you need to do is enter your name, an email address and password. If you're under the age of 18, you will need your parent’s permission to use the website.
New members also get an instant $5 sign up bonus of an Amazon gift card or Visa gift card after verifying their email address.
MyPoints used to have a $10 sign up bonus, but you had to sign up and spend at least $25 on a qualifying shopping offer to get the bonus. So, this new welcome bonus is actually better for most people since it's easy to complete.
2. Answer Surveys
One of the main ways to make money with MyPoints is to answer surveys.
On your survey dashboard, you see a list of available surveys you can complete. MyPoints provides a time estimate for each survey, as well as how many points it pays.
As you can see from my dashboard, I can answer a few surveys, with the highest-paying one paying 510 points and taking 30 minutes.
Most surveys pay 50 to 700 points, with each point being worth roughly $0.06. This means surveys pay under a dollar on average, although you can sometimes find surveys that pay in the $1 to $5 range if you get lucky.
3. Play Games
If you love to play games on your phone, MyPoints has an option where you can actually get paid to play games.
This is a similar concept to cash gaming apps like Cash Giraffe and Mistplay that let you earn rewards for downloading and trying new games.
However, most MyPoints gaming offers only pay you with points if you spend money in-game. This is a downside if you only play free mobile games, but it's a nice earning option if you already spend money on gaming apps.
And some gaming and sign-up offers pay quite well. As you can see above, I can currently earn over 10,000 points for trying some Bingo apps, or earn 20,000+ points for trying different investing apps and banks.
4. Shop Online
Another way to earn with MyPoints is to complete online shopping offers.
This feature pays you for shopping at hundreds of popular merchants. All you have to do is pick merchants to shop through via your MyPoints account, and you earn free points for every dollar you spend.
Some of MyPoints' shopping partners include:
- Adidas
- Amazon
- Best Buy
- Holiday Inn
- Kohl's
- Macy's
- QVC
Cash-back rates are typically 1-2%, but you can find boosted rates depending on ongoing promotions.
I still think reward apps and sites like Rakuten can have better rates. But it's nice that MyPoints has its own cash-back shopping portal.
5. Use Magic Receipts
If you’re a fan of Fetch Rewards or Ibotta, you know how scanning your receipts can add up in the form of free PayPal money and gift cards.
Thankfully, MyPoints also has a new feature called Magic Receipts. This lets you shop for offers from popular brands and then scan your receipt to earn points.
Some Magic Receipt offers can pay $10 to $15 or more, so it's quite lucrative. And you also find deals for everyday essentials and groceries, so it's easy to earn.
My husband and I earn hundreds of dollars a year using these programs, and MyPoints offers this feature as an additional way to save.
Using Fetch Rewards, Upside, and Pogo is still better than just using MyPoints Magic Receipts in my opinion. But you can always test out a few reward apps to see which ones pay the most.
6. Use Coupons
In addition to online shopping savings and cashback, MyPoints has coupons too!
You can use these coupons to save money at checkout, and you also get points for printing and redeeming coupons.
Again, using apps like Fetch Rewards and other reward apps might save you more. But it's worth exploring MyPoints' coupons before you shop to see if there are any good ones.
7. Play Bingo
One of the newer ways to earn bonus points on MyPoints is to play bingo.
MyPoints now has a special bingo board with different tasks on it. Completing the different items pays you with bonus points, and this is also a great way to try out some of the different features on MyPoints.
Sites like InboxDollars also have a new bingo feature you can use to earn bonuses, so it's nice that MyPoints is expanding its earning options as well.
8. Enter Sweepstakes
Can’t turn down a good sweepstakes or contest? If the answer is yes, then MyPoints has you covered!
You can use some of your points to enter contests for high end prizes for gift cards, free electronics, cash prizes, and more.
Odds of winning aren't always great, granted. But if you're feeling lucky you can enter a sweepstake or two.
9. Use The MyPoints Score Extension
Want to earn more points on MyPoints? Be sure to download their free web browser extension called Score!
This free shopping extension is available for Microsoft Edge, Firefox, and Chrome. It's similar to extensions like Rakuten and automatically applies coupon codes and lets you earn cash back when shopping at an eligible partner.
I’m not always a fan of extensions due to the large number of programs that I use and the amount of time I spend online. However, the MyPoints extension can be a great way to find additional earning opportunities.
10. Search The Web
One more way you can make money with MyPoints is to use its website to search the web.
All you have to do is use MyPoints' search bar like you would use any other search engine. Searches have the chance to pay you with points, which is the same system that Swagbucks has.
MyPoints Rewards & Cashing Out
You can redeem your MyPoints' points for free gift cards, PayPal money, Venmo deposits, or travel miles to a United MileagePlus account. Gift card rewards start at $3 to $5 for most cards, and cash rewards require $25 to redeem.
It takes 700 points to redeem a $5 gift card, so the points system is a bit confusing.
Some of the gift cards you can cash out include ones to:
Gift cards are sent electronically, and all rewards usually pay out in a day or two following redemption.
I like that MyPoints has over 70 gift cards to choose from. However, it's not the best site for getting free PayPal money since it has such a high cash-out minimum.
How Much Does MyPoints Pay?
How much you make with MyPoints depends on the features you use and how much time you spend on the site. Surveys generally pay $0.25 to $1 upon completion, and you can find lucrative shopping and gaming offers that pay $5 to $20 or even more.
For most people, making $10 to $50 per month with MyPoints should be possible if you put in a bit of effort.
Ultimately, MyPoints is an easy side hustle you can do with your phone or laptop when you're relaxing around the house. It's not a full-time online job or serious source of income.

Other MyPoints Reviews
After using MyPoints for the last few years, I think it's a legitimate site and a good way to make money online for beginners.
However, it's always helpful to read reviews from other people to learn if a side hustle is legit or not. Thankfully, there are plenty of other MyPoints reviews on websites like Reddit where people share their feedback:
- valeyard89 says: “No it is legit but takes awhile to earn points. You get points for clicking on offers. Used to do it daily years ago but never earned more than a few thousand pts overall.”
- TheTaxman_cometh says: “It's the same company as Swagbucks which seems to pay a little better.”
- Dangerous-Teaching-3 says: “Would not recommend mypoints to anyone. They closed my account when I earned enough points for a sizable payout, flagged account when there was NO violation or funny business.”
As you can see, two of these MyPoints reviews are positive but admit that it takes a bit of time to get paid. And one review complains that their account was banned without any reason.
I will say, you can get banned from MyPoints or any survey site if you use a VPN or don't answer surveys honestly, so be careful.
Again, this site won't make $1,000 a day or anything even close to that amount. But it's an easy side hustle you can use to earn some beermoney with.
The Best Sites Like MyPoints
After testing out MyPoints, I think it belongs in the top group of gpt sites since it has plenty of ways to earn and pays out on time.
That said, you can always try other MyPoints alternatives to earn even more:
- Branded Surveys: One of our favorite survey sites with a low $5 cash out minimum.
- Freecash: Earn with over 100+ earning options with this gpt website.
- Swagbucks: Get paid to complete surveys, download apps, shop online, play trivia for money, and more!
- InboxDollars: A popular U.S. survey website that also has a $5 bonus.
- Kashkick: This U.S. website lets you answer questions and play games for PayPal money.
- Survey Junkie: Another leading survey site with fast $5 cash outs.
- Scrambly: A newer and versatile rewards site like MyPoints.
- Earn Haus: A newer gpt site that also has lots of offers.
Tom also made a video sharing even more of his favorite gpt, like Prolific and Prizerebel, that you can use instead of MyPoints.
Is There Customer Support?
You can contact MyPoints by using the “Contact Customer Support” button when logged in. This is the best step if you're having difficulties with cashing out or you're not getting credited for completing a paid task.

Final Thoughts
I started using MyPoints, Swagbucks and other GPT sites many years ago when on pregnancy bedrest. Since I wasn’t able to go to work, I started to search for ways to make money from home. I was surprised at how many different options there were available, and the opportunities have only grown and multiplied since.
Today, MyPoints is still a leader in ways to make money on your laptop and phone. And while you won’t get rich or be able to retire from what you make on MyPoints, this is a solid and legitimate GPT website to get free money from things you’re probably already doing anyway.
So, Is MyPoints legit? Yes, absolutely. I’ve earned free gift cards personally from this website. While the earnings are not huge, there are lots of ways to make money, even for beginners. Even if you just earn a gift card or two a year, it’s simple and easy to do so.
Plus, you can always stack MyPoints with other platforms, like Branded Surveys and Swagbucks, to earn even more.
Hopefully, my MyPoints review helps you decide if this rewards website is right for you.
