Is Media Rewards Legit Or A Scam? (My Honest Review!)
When it comes to creating passive income sources in your life, there are plenty of easy ways to get started.
Using passive income apps is the perfect example. If you're willing to sell your data to various companies, you can actually earn small amounts of cash and free gift cards in your spare time without lifting a finger.
Media Rewards is a newer passive income app that says you can listen to TV and radio to earn rewards in your spare time.
But is Media Rewards legit? And how much does this app even pay?
I downloaded Media Rewards to test it out. And in this Media Rewards review, I'm covering everything you need to know about the app so you can decide if it's right for you.
What Is Media Rewards?
Media Rewards is a get-paid-to app that lets you earn rewards by sharing your data and answering paid surveys. It works in the background of your smartphone to measure your exposure to media like TV, radio, and the advertisements you hear on a daily basis.
In exchange for this consumer data, Media Rewards pays you with sweepstake entries. You can also answer in-app surveys to earn free gift cards.
Again, the app works in the background of your phone, so you don't notice it running as it collects data about the media in your daily environment.
The premise is similar to apps like Current which pays you to listen to music, or apps like MobileXpression, which pay you for your internet usage data.
You have to be comfortable with Media Rewards collecting this type of data to make money. But if you are, it's a pretty simple, passive side hustle you can try out.
How Does Media Rewards Work?
After testing out Media Rewards, I found that the app is pretty easy to use. Earning passive income with the app also takes five simple steps from start to finish:
- Run Media Rewards in the background of your smartphone
- Enter sweepstakes
- Answer surveys
- Cash out
Let's examine how each step works in a bit more detail!
1. Download & Sign Up
You can download Media Rewards for free on iOS or Google Play. You have to be 17 or older to use the app, and Media Rewards is available in six different countries:
- United States
- United Kingdom
- Canada
- India
- Australia
- Mexico
You sign up by visiting Media Rewards' websiteand entering your email to get a sign up link. This link lets you download the app, and you just need your email address to sign up.
Once you download and open the app, Media Rewards walks you through a brief tutorial on how everything works.
You also enable microphone access and location access. This lets Media Rewards monitor the advertisements and media around you, as well as your location, so it can pay you points and send paid surveys your way.
The app says that it can only detect certain frequencies that are indicative of media like commercials and music, but I'd take this with a grain of salt. When you run Media Rewards, the app can theoretically monitor everything, so keep this in mind.
2. Run The Media Reward App
Once you grant Media Rewards access to record media and know your location, it begins running in the background of your phone.
As the app collects data, you slowly earn points. Once you earn enough points, you reach a new sweepstake tier. Media Rewards gives out free PayPal cash every single month, and there are dozens of winners each sweepstake.
After running the app for about 10 minutes, I actually qualified for the free $50 PayPal cash giveaway at the end of the month. And I'm on track to reach the $100 giveaway as well.
This sweepstake feature is how you can make money on autopilot by using Media Rewards. Just note that you're not guaranteed to win sweepstakes, so it's hard to know the true earning potential.
However, sweepstakes can get as high as $1,000, so if you get very lucky, this could be a nice payday for you.
And the company claims that tons of people win every month and showcases past winners on its website. Granted, I don't know what the sweepstake odds are. Treat this as a fun way to potentially get free money, but don't count on it.
3. Rank Up Your Account
As you earn points with Media Rewards, you can rank up your account. And your rank is what actually determines the sweepstake entries you get and if you qualify for paid surveys.
This means you have to run the app for a few days or earn enough points to start answering surveys for free gift cards.
However, there are some ways you can rank up your account faster, including:
- Enabling location traction
- Completing your profile (requires adding your first name, birthday, and gender)
- Inviting your friends to join Media Rewards
You also start out with a Point Accelerator Boost that you can turn on to increase the number of points you earn for a short period of time. If you're listening to music or watching a movie, it's a good time to activate this boost.
4. Answer Surveys
Sharing your data is the main way to earn prizes with Media Rewards. But you sometimes qualify for surveys if your rank is high enough. Answering these surveys pays you with small gift cards to companies like Amazon, Best Buy, and other popular retailers.
According to other Media Rewards reviews from users, you have to use the app for about 8 weeks before you potentially qualify for any surveys.
Surveys aren't guaranteed either, and receiving them depends on your demographics, media consumption, location, and other factors.
I like that you get invited to surveys so you don't have to waste time answering ones, only to get disqualified.
This is the same system some premium survey panels like Pinecone Research use, and it's a nice way to make quick money if you get lucky with Media Rewards.
5. Get Paid
Media Rewards pays you in two different ways:
- Sweepstakes: The cash prizes from this monthly sweepstakes are paid out via PayPal cash. The cash prizes are typically paid out within 14 days after the winners are announced.
- Surveys: After you successfully complete a survey, you receive a gift card that's generally a few dollars to $5 or $10. Some of the gift cards available include Best Buy, Macy’s, Amazon and more. Media Rewards emails you an electronic gift card a few days after completing a survey.
Again, sweepstakes are the main way you can make money with Media Rewards. Hopefully, you're lucky enough to score a few sweepstake wins per year.
Is Media Rewards Legit?
Media Rewards is a legit passive income app that lets you earn free cash and gift cards for sharing your media consumption data. It has over a 4.5 star rating on both the Google and Apple app stores, with thousands of positive reviews from other users.
I also found that Media Rewards is very easy to use. I downloaded the app, and I actually qualified for the $10 sweepstake giveaway after about 10 minutes.
I'll update this review if I win the sweepstake or not at the end of the month. But it's nice that the app functions properly.
The fact you can't qualify for surveys immediately is my main complaint. Other apps and websites like Branded Surveys and Grindabuck let you answer surveys right away to make money, so I wish this was a feature for Media Rewards.
How Much Media Rewards Pay?
Surveys for Media Rewards pay slightly higher than the average and can be up to $10 per survey. However, there's no guarantee that you win sweepstakes or ever qualify for surveys, so the earning potential can be much higher or lower.
If you get lucky, you could score a fast $1,000 by winning the largest sweepstake. And qualifying for a few surveys could mean $10 to $20 a month in gift card rewards.
But there's also a chance you use Media Rewards and earn $0 for a few months, so keep this in mind.
Pros & Cons
Pros:
- Opportunity to win large cash rewards
- Media Rewards is completely passive
- Chance to win free PayPal cash
- Survey opportunities are easy and pay well
Cons:
- The app runs in the background and listens to audio, which might cause privacy concerns
- Sweepstake odds aren't public, so it's hard to know if you have decent odds of winning
- Paid surveys aren't guaranteed
Other Media Rewards Reviews
I tried out Media Rewards, and the app seems legit. I also qualified for a sweepstake giveaway pretty quickly, which is a plus.
However, one excellent way to tell if an online money-making idea is worth it or not is to read what other users have to say.
Thankfully, overall opinions of Media Rewards are generally positive. Just take a look at some other Media Rewards reviews on Trustpilot:
- Cheri Claycomb says: “I love this app. It actually pays you when they say they will and it's fairly easy to navigate. The only thing is I wish there was more of a grace period to take the surveys. If you don't see the notification right away then you miss out on the survey. That's the only reason that I didn't rate it 5 stars. Other than that it's great.”
- Angela Taylor says: “Easy surveys and nice prizes. I have done other surveys that were just too much work. The app pretty much does most of the work. All I have to do is make sure the app is on while watching tv, videos, and listening to music.”
These positive reviews are a good sign for the app, and Media Rewards has a 4.2 star average rating on Trustpilot.
This Media Rewards review from YouTuber Paid From Surveys also explains how the app works and what the earning potential is.
In his review, Michael explains how he qualified for a $10 gift card survey opportunity, so he actually made money with the app as well.
It took about 2 weeks to pay out the gift card, which is a bit slow. He didn't win any sweepstakes, but the fact he got a paid survey is promising.

The Best Apps Like Media Rewards
If you want a chance at winning cash sweepstakes, Media Rewards is a useful passive income app to use. However, it doesn't guarantee payments, which is a downside.
Thankfully, there are plenty of other passive income sites and apps you can use to earn consistent rewards:
- Nielsen Panel: Earn $50+ per year for sharing your data with Nielsen's mobile and computer panels.
- Mobile Performance Meter: Earn $0.10 per day for sharing your phone data.
- S'more: This money lockscreen app pays you $0.10 per day just for unlocking your phone.
- Rakuten: A popular cash back extension that pays you automatically for shopping at thousands of retailers.
- Honeygain: This app and website lets you sell your unused internet to earn passive income.
- Mode Earn: Another Android app that pays you to listen to radio stations.
None of these passive income apps can make you rich. But if you get lucky with Media Rewards and use these apps, you can probably earn $100 to $200+ per year in free cash.
And if you stack various reward apps like Fetch Rewards or Drop, you can probably take your earnings even higher.
