What Is Island Of Word?
Island of Word is an Android game for money from the developer Dianehurri. It says you can win real money by completing word game puzzles and by winning sweepstakes the app has.
The app is similar to other cash word games like Word Roamer and Words To Win. And on the surface, Island of Word seems like a fun way to make money playing games in your spare time.
However, after testing out this app, I can tell you that it doesn't pay and isn't an effective side hustle.
So, let's take a look at why this is the case and the main reasons you should avoid this app.
Is Island Of Word Legit?
No, Island of Word isn't legit, and the app makes it impossible to cash out your earnings. I wasn't able to redeem my $11, and there are many negative reviews for this app that also claim it doesn't pay.
While the game is entertaining for word puzzle fans, in my opinion, the Island of Word app is a scam trying to force users to watch ads so the developer makes money.
Ultimately, you're better off using legitimate apps that pay you for playing games, like Rewarded Play or Cash Giraffe, rather than wasting time with this app.
How Does Island Of Word Work?
I downloaded this app to test it out before writing this review. Like most word puzzle games, Island of Word is simple and just takes three steps:
- Download the app
- Complete word puzzles
- Enter sweepstakes and cash out
1. Download The App
You can download Island of Word for free from the Google Play store. At this time, there's no iPhone version, so you can read our post on the best iOS games for money if you don't have an Android.
Once you download the app, you're ready to play word puzzles; there's no need to create an account or to enter your email to begin playing.
2. Complete Word Puzzles
The goal of Island of Word is to solve various word puzzles. Each puzzle is set up in a crossword puzzle style, and you have to use the limited number of tiles you have to create words that fill out the board.
This is a classic word game, so it's not reinventing the wheel. Once you complete a level, you get a digital scratch ticket that you can use to earn rewards like virtual cash or Island of Word coins, which you use to enter sweepstakes.
Levels gradually become harder the longer you play, which can be fun. However, you have to watch unskippable advertisements between each level that last between 10 to 30 seconds or so.
The ads for this game are excessive and can be difficult to exit out of. Plus, the ads are generally for scammy cash games that promise you can win hundreds of dollars but aren't actually legitimate.
The ads make the user experience quite poor for this app, even if you like word puzzles.
3. Enter Sweepstakes
You can use digital coins from scratch tickets to enter cash sweepstakes. And while this seems like a great way to earn free money, these sweepstakes are a bit suspicious.
For starters, you need about 2,500 to 3,000 coins to enter sweepstakes. Island of Word has a $50 and $500 sweepstake, with the former being drawn daily and the latter being drawn monthly.
The red flag here is that there's zero proof of past winners. Most sweepstake apps have some sort of “past winners” section or online payment proof, but Island of Word has none.
It doesn't have any rules or explanations about when or how you get paid either. Compared to other real money games, Island of Word certainly seems quite suspicious.
Does Island Of Word Pay Real Money?
No, Island of Word doesn't pay real money, and the app makes it impossible to cash out. I played Island of Word for about 20 minutes and earned $11 but was unable to redeem any of my winnings since the app blocked me from doing so.
Island of Word says that you can cash out via PayPal or Cash App when you have $7 or more in rewards. But even though I had over $7, the app told me I had to reach $7 to cash out properly.
Other reviewers seem to have a similar experience. So while there are lots of sites that offer users the chance to make money with your phone by playing games, this apparently isn’t one of them.
Is Island Of Word A Scam?
Yes, Island of Word is a scam, and the app doesn't let you cash out even if you earn over $7. It also spams you with advertisements for other scammy apps, and there's no online payment proof for this app.
Personally, I think you're better off sticking with games that pay you to PayPal or with gift cards, like Mistplay or JustPlay, instead of using Island of Word.
Pros & Cons
Pros:
- Game is free and easy to use
- The word puzzles can be fun
Cons:
- Only available on Android
- It's impossible to cash out
- Ads are spammy, excessive, and hard to get out of without clicking them
- Game has laughable typos including the word bonus
- No support available
- No contact information is available
- Unable to view the Terms and Agreements that the app makes you consent to
- App is in early access which means no reviews, and especially no negative reviews on Google Play
Better Alternatives To Try
Since you can't cash out with Island of Word, it's not an effective way to earn money online. However, this doesn't mean you're out of options.
In fact, there are plenty of legit and free apps that pay real money. Some of our favorite ones include:
- Rewarded Play: A leading Android gaming app that lets you earn free gift cards for playing new games.
- Cash Giraffe: Another Android game that lets you earn PayPal cash and gift cards.
- Match To Win: This puzzle game for money is available on both Android and iPhone devices.
- Cash Cow: Another fun gaming rewards app with a variety of gift card prizes.
- Swagbucks: This gpt site lets you make money with instant cash surveys, playing games, downloading apps, and more.
- Kashkick: A U.S. survey website that also lets you play games for PayPal money.
Tom also made a video where he shares some of his favorite cash gaming apps you can use instead of Island of Word. And while these apps won't make you $300 a day or some full-time income, they actually pay and aren't scams.
Final Thoughts
I spent a while this morning playing this app for this Island of Word review. The game is fun to play if you like word games, but it's not an effective online side hustle.
The game itself is easy and fun, but the excessive ads between rounds make it almost unbearable. The advertisements are all for spammy apps as well, and the fact you can't cash out with this app is a dealbreaker.
While there are lots of legit ways to get paid playing games like with Mistplay and Rewarded Play, Island of Word doesn't appear to be one of them. So, hopefully this review helps you steer clear of this game.
Thanks for reading, and best of luck!
