At first glance, Honeygain seems like it's an amazing way to earn free money. But is Honeygain safe and actually worth using?
I tested out the app to find out. And in my Honeygain review, I'm sharing my experience with the app, how much I cashed out, and some of the best alternatives out there.

What Is Honeygain?
Honeygain is a passive income app that lets users sell their unused internet bandwidth, essentially acting as a node in a VPN network. This means that when you run Honeygain on your devices, other people from around the world can use your IP address to browse the web.
So, instead of being on the customer side of the equation, your internet and IP address is being sold to other people around the world.
If you've ever used a virtual private network, or VPN, to browse the web using an IP address from somewhere else in the world, you're going to have a pretty good grasp at what Honeygain is all about.
According to Honeygain: “By sharing your internet connection through Honeygain, business partners can access the web from your location. That's how you help others to view the internet as it is seen by real people – without any location restrictions or censorships.”
Now, you might be wondering: what kind of customers use Honeygain? Well, here are some of the business use-cases listed on their website:
- Brand protection/searching for brand results and counterfeit goods from different countries.
- Ad verification.
- App and website testing.
- Bypassing geo-restricted content.
- Comparing prices.
So, in a nutshell, Honeygain lets you earn passive income by selling your unused internet to businesses around the world.
Is Honeygain Legit?
Honeygain is legit and pays you for sharing your internet data. It has thousands of positive reviews, and there's plenty of payment proof online to show that it pays. Plus, the company has a 4.5 star rating on Trustpilot and over 14,000 reviews.
When I tested out Honeygain, the app paid me a small amount of money for sharing my data. I was also able to cash out effectively with Honeygain after using it for a few weeks and earning some referral bonuses. So, I can confirm it's a legit company and pays out on time:
Overall, getting paid was very simple, and the money landed in my PayPal account a few days after cashing out.
However, the main complaint people have about Honeygain is that it is very low paying. And if you don't live in the United States or some European countries, you probably can't earn very much with this app.
This is the case for many passive income apps. It doesn't mean Honeygain is a scam, but have realistic expectations about how much you can earn.
In my opinion, you can probably make $5 to $20 per month at most with this app. So don't expect to make $100 a day or anything like that.
Is Honeygain Safe?
Honeygain is safe, and you don't give up any personal data or information when you use the app. According to Honeygain, data is encrypted so that people renting bandwidth can't view all of your information, which helps with overall data security.
However, the main reason people are against selling their bandwidth is because you're letting a foreign entity use your IP address to browse the web.
In the past, companies that use this model have had instances of users breaking the law online or getting the IP owner banned from different web services.
Additionally, if you're a fan of online surveys, I've seen a few reports that selling your bandwidth to companies like Honeygain can result in bans from popular survey sites.
Ultimately, the jury is a bit out on this one, but I suggest being a bit cautious. If you're comfortable sharing your IP address, give Honeygain a try. Otherwise, steer clear of this app.
How Does Honeygain Work?
I downloaded Honeygain and ran it for 24 hours to test it for this review. Overall, the app is very beginner-friendly and easy to use.
If you want to start earning passive income with Honeygain, the process takes 4 steps:
- Create an account
- Download Honeygain
- Share your bandwidth
- Cash out
1. Create An Account
To get stared with Honeygain, you need to create an account so that your earnings are tracked as businesses around the world use your bandwidth.
You can create an account with your email or by connecting Facebook, and Honeygain is completely free to use. I found signing up pretty straightforward, and you can get started in about a minute or two.
Honeygain is also available globally, which is quite rare in the world of money-making apps. Plus, new members now get a $5 sign up bonus to sweeten the deal.
2. Download The App
You need to actually run Honeygain on a device to begin earning Honey, the platform's point system, so downloading Honeygain's app is the second step.
Currently, Honeygain is available for several devices, including:
- Android
- iOS
- Linux
- Mac
- Windows
According to Honeygain, there isn't a limit on how many devices you can have on a single account.
I've seen Honeygain setups where people are running more, and if you have 2 IP addresses for some reason, you can certainly push the limit.
3. Run Honeygain
You have to leave Honeygain running for the program to earn passive income. For mobile devices, this just takes opening the app and letting it sit on the homepage.
For Windows, the process is similar, and you have to launch Honeygain and let it run.
You see the amount of bandwidth you're using slowly creep up as miniature bees flutter around the screen. 1,000 Honeygain credits equals $1 and you get 3 credits for every 10MB of data you share.
The bandwidth count also corresponds to a dollar figure, so you can see how much money you're earning for your efforts.
Earnings come in the form of Honey, which deposits in your Honeyagin account until you're ready to cash out!
I tested out Honeygain for a day or so, and I was able to share about 0.34 credits, which is barely worth anything. Overall, it wasn't a very successful, high-paying app for me based on where I live.
4. Cash Out
You need to earn $20 woth of Honeygain credits to request a payout. And since 1,000 Honeygain credits is worth $1, this means you need to share over 33GB of data to earn enough to cash out.
Like other reward apps, the redemption process is also pretty straightforward. You just request a cash out and then sign up with Tipalti, Honeygain's payment provider, to send money to your account.
Honeygain pays out via PayPal cash, and it can take a day or two for payments to actually hit your account.
Alternatively, you can switch to Honeygain's crypto partner JumpTask and have your credits deposit there. This lets you cash out anytime you want, so the $20 minimum payout requirement isn't an issue. You also earn a 10% boost for joining JumpTask, which is nice.
How Much Does Honeygain Pay?
For most people, Honeygain provides a simple way to make money on autopilot. But you're probably not making more than a few dollars per month, and where you live and how long you run your devices for play a massive role in how much money you can make.
Really, your earning potential depends on how many devices you have running and how much data they end up sharing.
Your location also influences how much data you can share since countries in North America and Europe typically have a larger demand for IP addresses than other parts of the world.
You can earn more Honeygain credits by referring other users to the platform. And if you switch over to the JumpTask wallet, you actually earn a 10% boost in credits, which can add up.
Referral bonuses and JumpTask can help this app make extra money, but Honeygain still has pretty low earning potential. But then again, it pays you for doing nothing, so it's a low-paying app since it doesn't require any effort.
How Much I Earned With Honeygain + Payment Proof
I installed Honeygain on two old Android burner phones from my old phone farm back home in Canada. I ran the phones for 24 hours on a single IP address. My internet speed is decent. One phone didn't even run, but perhaps it was too old and clogged to work.
However, the other phone barely earned anything during the time it ran for 24 hours. In fact, I earned less than $0.001 worth of points!
The bees were working, but the rate at which my bandwidth was being used was so painstakingly slow.
According to Honeygain, there are several factors that can limit your earnings:
- Location. IP addresses from tier one countries (like the U.S., Canada, and some European countries) are typically more in demand for VPN access and therefore let you sell more bandwidth.
- Number of IPs. The more IP addresses you have, the more you'll earn. If you're a normal household, you probably just have 1 IP address, so not much you can do here.
- Network Speed. According to Honeygain, the best performance is seen on networks with 50Mbps and ping of less than 50ms. Seems pretty fast.
I think my problem was that my network speed wasn't very fast and that I was only running 1 IP address. But still, I barely sold any data, so the app earned next to nothing for my 24 hour test.
For me, this makes Honeygain a bust. And I prefer using the Pawns app, which is similar to Honeygain but has more earning options. But again, your location plays a massive role in how much you can earn, so it could pay more in your area.
That said, I did keep the device running and earned some money from referral bonuses. Honeygain paid me after cashing out within two days, and here's a screenshot of my payment proof again:

Other Honeygain Reviews
I tested out Honeygain to find out how the app works and to see if it pays. And, unfortunately, my Honeygain experiment wasn't very successful since I couldn't share much data.
However, I like to take a look at Reddit to gauge what other uses think about money making apps. In this case, since my own earnings were an epic fail, I think this info is even more valuable.
As you can see in this Honeygain review thread, people have varying levels of success with the app. Here's what some other Honeygain reviews are saying:
- alinfrk says: “It depends a lot on your upload speed. From 2 pcs with different ip's i make 0.35$/day from each app. (both have upload speed over 50Mbps). It's not much, but it's something, and it is completely passive. I check 1 time/day the dashboard from both apps.”
- MajorFPS says: “It's safe I guess but gonna take you a lot of time and phone farming just to reach $20 If you use 3/4 phones on work everyday 24/7 you can earn thr threshold within a month.”
- wwetheforesaken: “It's not worth it. Have had it for 2 months, you should check on it daily and make sure that the app doesn't stop running. As for the PC version the software would require installing it or its updates once a few days. It does make some cash if you are willing to make sure everything its running but not enough to justify itself.”
Honestly, earning $0.45 per day from Honeygain is pretty decent. That's actually around $12 per month, or $144 per year in free money.
However, like I mention, some users report problems like bans from their favorite survey websites. Ultimately, I think this goes to show that there's no way to know much much money you'll make with Honeygain until you try it.

The Best Apps Like Honeygain
If you're still on the hunt for more passive income, you can also consider several other apps like Honeygain to sell your extra bandwidth:
- Pawns. This is my #1 Honeygain alternative and offers better rates and faster payouts.
- Fluidstack. This is one of the most reliable ways to sell your internet if you have a decent computer and network speed.
- PacketStream. This website like Honeygain also lets you make money with your internet by selling to companies and residential users.
- EarnApp. Another passive income app that lets you share your bandwidth for money.
- Privatix. Get paid in PRIX tokens, a cryptocurrency, by selling internet.
- Mysterium Network. Like Privatix, you earn cryptocurrency, in this case Ethereum, for selling your internet!
Granted, none of these apps like Honeygain are going to work too well if there isn't a demand for IP addresses and bandwidth in your area.
So, I'd test out a few of these Honeygain alternatives if you're really interested in this side hustle idea, but don't spend too much time if you find there just isn't enough demand for your IP address.
If these apps and websites like Honeygain don't work for you, you can also turn to various passive income apps to at least earn something.
Some of my favorites include:
- Nielsen Computer & Mobile Panel: Earn up to $50 per year for sharing your data with Nielsen!
- Mobile Performance Meter. Sell your mobile phone usage data in exchange for about $0.10 per day!
- CashMagnet. Turn your phone into an autosurfing device and earn passive income! Checkout our CashMagnet app review for all the details.
- MobileXpression: Another popular data collection app that pays.
- S'more App. Earn $0.10 per day just for unlocking your phone and viewing a few ads. Simple as that. Checkout our S'more app review to learn more.
Realistically, I think you can earn $100 to $200 per year if you use a few apps and programs to earn bits of income.
Sure, this won't make you rich, but hopefully one or two of these apps make a small difference. And if you want more ideas, you can also read my post on Android apps that pay you!
Is Honeygain Real Or Fake?
Honeygain is real and not fake, and it lets you earn passive income for sharing your internet data. It's also run by a reputable company, and there's plenty of payment proof online and positive reviews from real users.
I was also able to cash out with Honeygain and got paid in a few days, so I know that it pays real money. However, this app doesn't pay much for many people since the earning potential depends on where you live.
Frequently asked Questions
Can I Use A VPN With Honeygain?
No, you shouldn't use a VPN with Honeygain. The company states: “by using a VPN you are taking the risk of getting your account suspended, especially if the end-point IP address usage type is DCH, hence, we do not recommend using a VPN with Honeygain.”
So, in short, Honeygain doesn't ban the usage of VPN outright, but you're probably going to get banned and lose your earnings if you try using one.
Is There A Honeygain Promo Code?
An easy way to boost your earnings out of the gate is by entering a Honeygain promo code. As you signup, you'll see an option to enter a promo code. I'm almost certain this has to be done during signup.
If you enter the code gethoney, you earn an instant $5 in your account.
Not useful if Honeygain barely earns in your area, but hey, it helps if you actually stick with Honeygain!
Can I Use Multiple Devices With Honeygain?
Honeygain lets you run up to 10 active devices. You can also split these into two IP addresses if you have two IPs.
You can run more than 10 devices at once, but you only make money with 10 devices.
How Much Data Does Honeygain Use?
According to Honeygain, it never uses more than 10% of your available network bandwidth.
That being said, how much bandwidth Honeygain ends up using again depends on how many people want to use IP addresses in your area.
If you make a lot of money with Honeygain, you can definitely go through Gigabytes of usage, so I'd only use Honeygain if you have unlimited internet and a decent speed.
Is Honeygain Worth It?
In my opinion, Honeygain is worth using if you have some old phones laying around and want to try out an easy passive income source. But it isn't worth it if you're trying to make hundreds of dollars a month or replace your job. It's also not worth using if you have privacy concerns over sharing your data.
If you're looking for more serious money-making ideas, I suggest trying various gig app jobs or different GPT sites that pay.
Final Thoughts
So, is Honeygain legit and worth using?
I really think this depends on what you're comfortable with and what your income goals are.
Random passive income ideas are always going to have a special place in my heart. After all, this hobby was a huge part of my time in college.
Honeygain fits into this strange world of beermoney. Like most apps in the space, it either works for you or is a total flop. But it can be a nice passive side hustle if it works out for you.
Personally, I won't be sticking with this app, and I wish I had better results from my test to share.
I also think that, if you decide to try out Honeygain, just make sure you're comfortable selling your data and understand the earning potential.
Honeygain is legit because they pay their uses and there is plenty of payment proof online…but I'd still be careful and weigh the pros and cons of this side hustle very carefully.
Thanks for reading our official Honeygain review! I hope it's helped clarify what you shoul expect from this platform.
