2. Connect Your Email Account To Fetch Rewards
The Fetch Rewards eReceipt program needs to connect to your email account to redeem online shopping receipts.
This is because Fetch Rewards actually scans your inbox to look for online receipts instead of having you scan paper receipts like you would for normal in-store purchases.
Currently, Fetch Rewards eReceipts work for various email options, but the type of device you have influences what's supported.
iOS eReceipt email options include:
- Gmail
- Outlook
- AOL
- Yahoo
Android eReceipt email options include:
- Gmail
Fetch Rewards states more email support is coming for Android, so make sure you have the latest version of the app!
To connect your email address to your Fetch Rewards account, here's what you do:
- Tap the “Me” button in the Fetch Rewards app
- Tap on eReceipts
- Tap connect and then tap on the email button to begin the process of connecting your email account

3. Shop & Scan Your Inbox
After you make an online purchase at an eligible Fetch Rewards eReceipt partner, check your email to see if the order and payment confirmation email came in your inbox.
Once you get that email, tap the blue eReceipt button at the bottom of the app that's next to the regular camera button you use to scan paper receipts:
This button tells Fetch Rewards to scan the email address you connected to look for shopping receipts.
If Fetch Rewards finds an e receipt from a partner, you earn Fetch Rewards points like you would for in-store purchases.
4. Cash Out
Fetch Rewards eReceipt program pays you with the same Fetch Rewards points you would earn for in-store purchases.
So, this program is really a way to add to your total points balance more quickly and is an awesome way for online shoppers to earn more cash back.
As you earn Fetch Rewards points, you know the drill: you can redeem points at dozens of retailers for free gift cards, with many rewards just requiring 3,000 points (worth $3).

Fetch Rewards eReceipt Eligibility & Rules
The new eReceipts program works with dozens of retailers.
But, there are still some rules about receipt eligibility like the normal app you should know so you redeem eReceipts in time to earn points,
Eligible Fetch Rewards eReceipts must be:
- No more than 14 days old
- From a supported retailer (see above list)
- Be from your original email address and not from a forwarded email
This last point is important and is also why you should connect the email you get the most shopping receipts from to Fetch Rewards to avoid this forwarding problem.
Common Problems People Have
If you follow all of the steps above but still can't earn points from your e receipts, you might think this program doesn't work at all.
Unfortunately, the reality of many online rewards programs is that they sometimes miss eligible purchases, causing you to miss out on cash back.
If you scan your inbox and still can't earn from eligible receipts with Fetch Rewards eReceipts, here's what you do:
- Tap on “Edit” under the eReceipts account option for your email address
- Tap disconnect account
- Uninstall the Fetch Rewards app
- Restart your phone
- Re-download Fetch Rewards
- Login to the app and reconnect that email address
- Scan your inbox again
Once you scan again, you can look for recent Fetch Rewards points under the “Activity” tab.
Fetch Rewards also advises clearing your cache if the above steps don't work. Also note you can't use a VPN with Fetch Rewards.

As for what the company does with these receipts, your guess is as good as mine.
I assume receipts are saved to a database for verification/data tracking purposes. I wouldn't be surprised if this data is then compiled into some sort of report and shared with brand partners.
However, I don't have any privacy concerns with these types of receipt scanning apps, especially since your name doesn't appear on a shopping receipt.

The new Fetch Rewards eReceipts program is awesome because it makes one of the best in-store rewards app even more robust.
But, while this rewards program is promising, it isn't necessarily your best option for earning cash back for shopping.
In fact, numerous shopping browser extensions can often pay a higher percentage of cash back or even let you earn free Bitcoin if that's your thing.
Some popular ways to earn rewards for online shopping include:
