Is dscout Legit Or A Scam? (My Honest Review!)
Do you want to get paid to explore your city and for giving your feedback? If the answer is yes, then the dscout app could be for you.
This market research platform lets “Scouts” earn real cash by completing a wide variety of missions. But is dscout legit? And how much can you really earn using this app?
I tested it out to find out. And in my dscout review, I'm covering how this platform works and what you should expect to help decide if it's worth using.

What Is dscout?
dscout is a free app available on Android and iOS that lets you get paid for answering questions about different products and services. The company began in 2011 and operates out of Chicago.
On dscout, paid surveys are called “missions” because the site claims its research tasks are much more fun and engaging than other survey sites. And, in fairness, the app offers numerous ways to answer surveys. It has short answers, multiple choice, picture, audio, and video questions!
Overall, it's a robust rewards website, and it states you can earn free PayPal money in your spare time by becoming a member.
Is dscout Legit?
Yes, dScout is legit and pays users on time. The app also has a 4.5 star average rating on the Apple App store and a 4.2 star average rating on the Google Play Store with thousands of reviews.
Since dscout pays $25 to $150 per mission, it's one of the highest paying apps in the reward app space. Really, most negative reviews stem from how inconsistent missions can be.
This makes it hard to earn reliable income from using dscout, so don't expect it to replace your day job. But for making $50 fast every once in a while, I think dscout is a great app to test out.
How Does dscout Work?
Like other beermoney websites, making money with dscout isn't very difficult. I was able to sign up in just a few minutes and this platform only takes five simple steps:
- Complete missions
- Share photos and videos
- Apply to interviews
- Cash out
1. Sign Up
To sign up with dscout, head over to dscout.com/be-a-scout and select the Google Play Store or App Store to download the app. When you open the app, select “Become a Scout” and create an account.
The app asks for a bit of information when you create an account, including your:
- Name
- Date of birth
- Location (optional)
- Password
Once you fill out that information, you enter the explore page of the app where you can see opportunities for missions.
2. Complete Missions
The main way to make money with the dScout app is to complete missions. These missions are essentially surveys and short tasks you complete to get paid.
There are 3 main types of dscout missions:
- Live Missions
- Diary Missions
- Express Missions
I'm going to explain how each mission works so you have a better idea about how to start making money.
Live Missions
Live missions are live interviews where an interviewer asks you questions about a certain product or service so you can share your feedback.
This type of mission is similar to focus groups you find on User Interviews and Respondent. These are one-on-one studies conducted by a dscout interviewer, so you're not part of a group.
An example of a live mission would be if the interviewer asked you how you manage your health on a daily basis. You would provide that information and then they might ask “would you use a product like this in your daily routine?”
These live missions usually take between 30-90 minutes and pay between $50-$100!
Diary Missions
Diary missions are the most popular missions because they are the most available mission type and pay well.
In a nutshell, diary missions require documenting your experience using a product or going about a journey over a specific period of time. For example, you could be asked to document your experience using a different browser for 2 weeks.
These types of missions take a long time to complete since they are usually spread out over days or weeks. However, each time you have to follow up will only take a few minutes or so.
Diary missions take between 3-21 days to complete and pay between $50-$100.
Keep in mind that some of these missions request video recording while you answer questions. Again, this is more work than most microtask sites, but the payouts are worth it.
Express Missions
Express missions are much faster, easier, and lower paying surveys that you can complete on dscout.
These missions are similar to tasks you complete on gpt sites like Kashkick or Swagbucks and involve answering short surveys for cash.
You answer a few multiple choice questions, record a short video, or document a quick experience. Express missions usually take between 5-10 minutes and pay anywhere between $2-$10.
Remember that these missions fill up really quick because they’re easy to complete, so answer them quickly!
3. Share Photos & Videos
Sharing photos and videos through the DScout app is a great way for companies to get more insight on products. It’s also an excellent way to earn a bit more money because missions that require photos or videos usually pay more.
You can record everything on your smartphone and usually don’t have to film anything longer than a couple minutes. This feature is extremely popular with diary missions and live missions, but they can be found in any sort of task.
If you’re not comfortable sharing your face on DScout, this app might not be for you since there are tons of high paying tasks that require it.
4. Apply To Interviews
Applying to interviews and jobs is the only way you can get accepted to participate in missions. For live and diary missions, you fill out a short application to see if you qualify for the job.
It usually takes between 5-10 minutes to apply, but it doesn’t pay anything until you actually get accepted and participate. dscout has a great interface that shows you everything you need to know about the interview before applying.
It shares information like:
- How long the missions takes
- How much it pays
- If the mission uses photo, video, etc.
- When the mission starts
- What’s required to pass the application
- A brief description of the missions
Thankfully, this site is very honest and open about what’s expected from you if you want to get paid, so you should know what to expect before accepting a mission.
Cashing Out & Reward Options
dscout lets you cash out earnings as PayPal money. It takes around 5 to 10 days for money to appear in your account after you complete a mission.
Keep in mind that you should take every mission seriously as your money can be withheld if you provide poor responses with minimal effort.
You receive a notification when a mission has been reviewed and approved after completion. This is also your notice that your money is being sent to you. At the moment, dscout doesn't offer free gift cards, crypto, or other payment options besides PayPal.
However, there's no minimum cash out requirement, so you can make quick money with the dscout app and don't have to earn a certain amount to redeem earnings.
How Much Does dscout Pay?
How much dscout pays depends on the types of missions you have access to and if you can complete them in time. On average, dscout pays between $25 to $150 per mission, but it all depends on how difficult missions are.
But if you get accepted to 2 diary missions that both pay $150 and each take 2 weeks to complete, that's $300 a month. Making this much money with dscout is realistic if you put in the time and effort to apply and get accepted. However, this might not work for everyone.
You could complete a few express missions throughout the month and only end up with $30 or so.
On average, I would expect to earn something close to $100 a month with this app. This assumes you accept several missions and complete the tasks to get paid.
Pros & Cons
Pros:
- High earning potential
- Earn PayPal cash for your efforts
- Great notification system to tell you when missions are available
- Many types of missions to earn with
- Higher-paying than many survey websites
Cons:
- It can be hard to get accepted to missions
- Most missions require a camera
- Some missions take days or weeks to complete
- Only available on mobile devices
Other dscout Reviews
I signed up for dscout and explored the available missions to learn more about this app. But one of the best ways to know if a side hustle is legit is by seeing what other users have to say about their experience with the app.
Take a look at these users on the r/beermoney thread about dscout:
- Drbtx1 says: “I haven't had much luck getting regular missions from dscout, so applying for those feels like a time sink…”
- TigerLily says: “Dscout is awesome! If I really work on applying to all I'm eligible for, I can get 3-5 missions a month.”
- W0212841 says: “I signed up for dscout about 5 days ago and already snagged 2 missions for a total of $250.”
As you can see, some people who put in effort find luck in getting missions while others aren’t getting as much. Either way, it's a positive sign for this side hustle that some users are getting missions and are making a few hundred bucks a month.
And if you want a fun side hustle that's a bit different than your average survey site, dscout could be worth a try.
The Best dscout Alternatives
There are actually many apps like dscout you can use to get paid for your advice and opinions. And I suggest stacking a few of these apps to maximize your earnings:
Some of the best apps like dscout include:
- Premise: Pays you for completing short tasks in your city like taking photos of buildings or confirming product prices.
- Gigwalk: One of the most popular mystery shopping apps.
- Branded Surveys: One of my favorite paid survey sites that lets you cash out at just $5!
- UserTesting: Pays you with PayPal money for testing out websites and apps and sharing your feedback.
- Field Agent: Another leading mystery shopping app with similar tasks like dscout.
- Survey Junkie: A leading survey site where you get paid to share your opinion.
- Swagbucks: Another popular gpt site that pays you to play games, answer surveys, shop online, and watch ads.
If you're looking for more serious cash, you can always try out different side gig apps like DoorDash or Instacart. Both these gigs pay way more that survey sites. But for simple ways to make money with your phone, these apps like dscout are worth using.

If you’re uncomfortable showing your face and don’t want to participate in long studies, then this app isn’t the best side hustle for you. However, if you don’t mind being on camera for most of the missions and have fun answering questions, then I highly recommend giving dscout a try!
