What Is DollarSprout Rewards?
DollarSprout Rewards is a cashback website from the finance website DollarSprout that helps you save money when shopping online at 15,000+ merchants.
The platform offers a free extension and also has an iOS app for shoppers. And members can also enjoy coupon codes and discounts to partner stores in addition to cashback rewards.
If you've ever used reward apps or shopping extensions like Honey or Rakuten before, the DollarSprout Rewards should feel quite familiar.
And my favorite aspect of DollarSprout Rewards is that it lets you cash out with PayPal money once you earn just $5.
How Does DollarSprout Rewards Work?
Since I'm a fan of money-making apps and ways to save money, I downloaded DollarSprout Rewards to test it out. Overall, the extension is very easy to use and takes four steps:
- Download the extension and sign up
- Shop at eligible retailers
- Earn cash back
- Get paid
Time to cover each step in a little more detail!
1. Download The Extension
To start saving money with DollarSprout Rewards, you have to download its extension or iOS mobile app.
The extension is available for Chrome and Safari and is completely free to use. Once you download it, you create an account by connecting via your Facebook, Google, or Apple account.
Afterwards, you link your PayPal account to your DollarSprout Rewards account. This step is necessary so you can actually cash out eventually.
According to DollarSprout, it never shares this data or any of your personal data with retailers, which I like. And it just needs your PayPal email address and ID, not any sensitive login information.
2. Shop Online
Like other cashback apps and websites such as Rakuten and TopCashBack, DollarSprout helps you find deals and cash-back rewards at thousands of retailers.
According to its website, DollarSprout Rewards works with 15,000+ partners. Some of the most notable names include:
- BJ's
- GameStop
- Foot Locker
- Old Navy
- Microsoft
- Sephora
- Walgreens
- Walmart
Once you have the extension installed, DollarSprout Rewards also highlights which retailers offer cashback when you browse the web.
For example, I was searching for some clothing, and the extension let me know that Old Navy offers up to 1.3% cashback.
You can also find higher cashback rates in the 5% to 10% range or even more depending on the retailer and ongoing promotions.
3. Earn Cash Back
Once you're ready to shop somewhere, all you have to do is activate DollarSprout Rewards' cashback offer to earn.
The extension actually has a handy pop-up and “activate” button to remind you. Once you click activate, the extension can track your purchase so you earn cashback.
This is easy, free money for purchasing something you'd buy anyway. And the one-click activation is super simple.
According to DollarSprout, cashback usually appears in your account within five days of an eligible purchase. You can track all of your earnings in your main dashboard.
And, DollarSprout Rewards also stacks with credit card rewards! So, you can essentially earn passive income from this extension and whatever rewards card you do your shopping with.
4. Get Paid
You can cash out your cash back once you earn at least $5. DollarSprout Rewards pays you automatically each month via PayPal as long as you have enough funds.
The fact you get paid monthly and with free PayPal cash are two perks. And $5 is a pretty low cashout minimum since some shopping platforms, like Drop, require $25 to cash out.
If you have a problem with payments or a purchase tracking correctly, you can email [email protected] for assistance.
How Much Does DollarSprout Rewards Pay?
While the amount you earn from DollarSpout Rewards depends on how much you shop, for the most part, you can consistently earn about 2% to 10% on purchases. Plus, some cashback rates are even higher depending on the retailer.
But again, how much you make with DollarSprout (or any cashback website) really depends on how much shopping you do online.
While I do most of my online shopping during the holidays and the spring (when I have lots of birthdays), I do earn cashback on purchases I make online all year long.
Sometimes I make $20, $50, or even more in a month if I shop a lot. Other times, it might just be a couple dollars. However, I view this cashback as free beermoney or lunch money that I get back and can use for other things.
Admittedly, you won’t get rich from these savings, but earning quick money for shopping is never a bad thing.
Is DollarSprout Rewards Legit?
Yes, DollarSprout Rewards is legit, and the free extension lets you earn cashback from over 15,000 retailers. And while the extension is fairly new, the DollarSprout blog and team have been in business since 2015, and have helped over 20 million readers improve their finances since then.
Granted, you won't get rich with any shopping extension. But every little bit counts, and I like how easy the extension is to use.
Plus, you can always use in-store shopping apps like Fetch Rewards or paper coupons, to save when shopping in-person. But for shopping online, extensions like DollarSprout Rewards have you covered.

The Best Sites Like DollarSprout Rewards
After testing out DollarSprout Rewards, I like how easy the extension is to use. And I like that it pays out quickly via PayPal and also highlights deals when you surf the web.
However, there are plenty of other money-saving apps and extensions you can also try, including:
- Capital One Shopping: One of the best ways to automatically apply available coupon codes when you shop online.
- Coupert: Another great shopping and coupon extension you can try.
- Hoopla Doopla: Another leading cashback shopping platform that also pays you with cash back and has a $5 cash out minimum.
- Rakuten: One of the leading shopping rewards platforms that also has a $30 sign up bonus.
- Honey: Another popular coupon extension to help you save money in the U.S. and internationally.
- Kudos: This new extension helps you pick the right credit card when shopping to maximize rewards.

Any online shopper who is age 18 or older can use DollarSprout Rewards for their online shopping. You also need to have a PayPal account and to verify that account.

DollarSprouts Rewards vs Rakuten – Which One Is Best?
I tried out DollarSprout over the weekend for this DollarSprout Rewards review. While admittedly I didn’t have a ton of online shopping to do, I did try it out for a few different situations from sites I do typically purchase from.
I am a long time Rakuten user and both apps seem to have similar savings and promotions. While there are a few minor differences as far as functionality, I mostly see the choice coming down to personal preferences.
I will say that Rakuten is better if you want an instant sign-up bonus since it pays you $30 when you sign up and spend at least $30. It's also better for travel deals and for in-store shopping since it has a mobile app and some local deals.
However, DollarSprout Rewards is better than Rakuten if you want quick payments since it pays monthly instead of quarterly.
Ultimately, both of these money saving apps are going to give you free money back for shopping online. Whether you use one or the other, don’t miss your chance to get free PayPal payments as rewards for shopping online.

Final Thoughts
Since going frugal over a decade and a half ago, I’ve used many different apps to save money and websites to help us save.
Couponing and saving money online have changed a lot over the last few years, and shopping smart is now less about clipping coupons from the Sunday paper and more about using technology to cut your costs when shopping in-store and online.
This change might worry those who are less technology savvy, but the truth is, it couldn’t be easier. If you can shop online or use an app, you have easy ways to save money.
Browser extensions like DollarSprout Rewards are an excellent way to save money when shopping online. They can help you find the biggest savings and identify the lowest price.
While having an extension on your browser may concern a few individuals about your privacy concerns, DollarSprout does not share or sell your consumer information. (See DollarSprout’s privacy policy.)
I tend to be overly cautious with my personal info due to past identity theft, and I personally don’t see the harm in this extension.
DollarSprout may know that I buy new pants for my teen son constantly, or that I purchase enough birdseed to feed all the birds and squirrels in the tri-county area. But this is similar data to what your grocery store membership card collects, and I figure that info will just help it find better promotions to help me save money.
In a nutshell, DollarSprout and other cashback apps can help you save when shopping online. And you’ll want to make sure you’re using it or another similar app to get the most savings and free money possible.
Thanks for reading my DollarSprout Rewards review, and happy shopping!
