Current Rewards App Review – Is It Legit Or A Scam?
Did you know that the average person spends close to 18 hours per week listening to music?
Are you one of these people? If so, you might be leaving some passive income on the table without even realizing it!
A new music rewards app called Current Rewards has found a way for music lovers to take advantage of how much music they listen to and turn it into a small side hustle.
The Current app claims you can actually make $600 per year just by listening to music with their platform! But is Current Rewards legit? And does this app actually pay you money for listening to music?
I downloaded and tried out Current Rewards to find out. And my Current app review is covering how this app works, its earning potential, and what you need to know.

What Is The Current Rewards App? (Mode Earn)
Current Rewards is a free passive income app available on iOS and Android that pays you to listen to music on their app.
Essentially, you have to listen to their custom radio stations and you earn points for each song you fully listen to within that station.
Note that the Android version of Current Rewards is now called Mode Earn, and the iOS version is called Current Rewards: Offline Music.
Anyway, Current Rewards/Mode Earn is different from listening to Spotify or Apple Music, but don't freak out yet!
There are actually over 100,000 radio stations to choose from, so you shouldn’t have any problem finding the ones that fit your music taste.
You can still search for your favorite songs, artists, and albums and listen to them online or offline. And the Current app also lets you earn money by doing a variety of micro tasks.
For example, you can fill out surveys and do other small tasks to earn more, but listening to music is still your best bet to rack up points consistently.
You can also complete your Current Music profile as you listen to music in order to expand your earning potential.
Users have stated that, the more they complete their profile, the higher “points-per-play” they were earning (more on this later).
How Does Current Rewards Work?
I tested out Current Rewards to learn how the app works, and it's quite simple overall.
If you have an Android app, search for the Current Rewards app or Mode Earn app on the Google Play store to get started. If you have an iPhone, the app is still called Current Rewards. The sign up process is fast and requires less information than traditional money-making apps.
Here’s how to register for Current Music:
- Enter your phone number.
- Verify your number through confirmation text.
- Select your country from the drop down list.
- Request to join the rewards program at the bottom.
If you prefer signing up with an email or through Facebook, you can do that as well. The phone number verification is just the fastest way to register.
From there, you're ready to earn rewards by listening to music and completing other short tasks. Let's take a look at all the ways you can earn and how to start.
1. Sign Up
Once you sign up for Current Music, you tell the app the genres of music you like so it can match you with the best radio stations.
I was pleasantly surprised at the range Current Music offers. And when I signed up, the app gave me some pretty decent playlists for genres like country, reggaeton, rock, and alternative music.
You can also enable location tracking and push notifications to earn even more with Current Rewards.
2. Get Paid To Listen To Music
The main way to make money with Current Rewards is to listen to music. That's because the app pays you with small amounts of points for every song you listen to on the app.
These points can eventually be redeemed for gift cards, free PayPal cash, or unlocking premium app features. So, in a nutshell, once you become a member, Current Rewards pays you passive income just for listening to music!
In my experience, you only earn about 0.025 points per song you listen to. But points stack up pretty quickly, and again, music variety is decent on the app. I also like that you can save your favorite stations and songs to replay them later.
Just note that some people I know earn 10 to 20 points per song they listen to, but this isn't the case for everyone. Where you live impacts how many points you earn as well based on my experience.
3. Answer Surveys
Another way to earn with Current Rewards is to answer short in-app surveys from various partners.
When I tested out Current Rewards, surveys weren't available. But you can find them in the “share your opinion” section of the app, and some surveys pay 10,000 points or more.
However, you might not qualify for many surveys like me, which is a downside. And surveys don't pay very much per hour.
If you actually like taking online surveys, I suggest checking out Branded Surveys, Grindabuck or Prolific Surveys instead since they pay more in my experience.
4. Download & Play Games
Apps that pay you to play games are another common genre of apps, so it's no surprise that this is an earning option for Current Rewards.
In the “tasks & offers” section of the app, you can find plenty of paid download offers that let you earn bonus points for downloading and trying new games and apps.
As you can see from my screenshot above, Current can pay me to try a variety of gaming apps, with some offers paying over 10,000 points.
I wouldn't use this feature if you're not a fan of mobile gaming, but hey, it's another nifty way to earn prizes!
But again, apps like Mistplay, Rewarded Play, and loads of other apps let you earn rewards this way, so it's not unique for Current Rewards.
If you really like mobile games, I also suggest reading our Mistplay review and Gamehag review for two more ways to make money playing video games.
5. Refer Friends
Most GPT websites have a referral program, so it's nice to see that the Current App also pays you for referring your friends!
Both users get 200 free points for using a referral code, which is a nice way to boost your points as soon as you join the app.
You also get 5% of their earnings for life according to Current Rewards. This is a decent referral bonus, but you have to invite fellow music-lovers if you really want to earn.
6. Shop & Earn Cashback
Another feature of the Current Music Rewards App is a cashback shopping section.
This is still somewhat basic, but the idea is to shop online through Current Rewards to earn points in the form of cashback.
You're honestly better off sticking with websites like Rakuten since it has more offers and pay more in cashback.
However, hopefully this section of the app grows with time! And I like that you can still get paid for shopping with Current.
7. Watch Videos
The Current Rewards app has a small video section where you can watch short clips and ads to earn more points.
Again, not the highest earning part of the app, but it's another way to make money on autopilot.
8. Earn Lockscreen Rewards
Lockscreen apps that pay are largely finished these days, so it's awesome that Current Rewards is bringing this concept back!
The idea here is to earn points by transforming your phone's lock screen into a screen that also contains advertisements.
Annoying yes, but easy passive income…You don't have to interact with the ads to slowly earn points.
As you play music, you'll see ads appear on your phone's lockscreen and slowly earn bonus points for doing so. If you like this idea, you should also check out our S'more app review!
S'more pays $0.10 per day for unlocking your phone, which is an easy $36.50 extra per year for no effort.
9. Charge Your Phone
A new update to this Current Music review is that you can now earn points just by charging your phone!
The Android version of the app pays you small amounts of points when you charge your phone. This isn't going to pay a lot of points, but open the app while charging your phone to test it out for yourself.
10. Enter & Win Raffles
Another new feature of the Current Rewards app is the raffle system.
The app has daily raffles you can enter and gives away millions of free points to users each week.
Your odds aren't great of winning of course, but it's nice that the app continues to add new earning options as it grows.
Current Music Rewards – Cashing Out
Alright, so you might be wondering how to redeem points in Current Music after you listen to music or use some of the other options to get points.
Current rewards can be redeemed in a few ways:
- Gift cards
- Physical products and free electronics
- Donations to select charities
- PayPal cash
When I tested out the app, the gift card selection is pretty decent too, and you can redeem rewards to Target, Walmart, Starbucks, Amazon, and free Google Play credit.
However, while Current Rewards is legit, the rewards are slightly unbalanced. This mens a certain amount of points might get you a $5 gift card while the same amount of points might get you a $3 Paypal cashout.
Many rewards apps follow a similar style, so look out for opportunities where your points are most worth it to redeem.
Here's some basic information about points:
- 1,000 Points = $1 (This is at the best possible earning potential)
- You need a minimum of 8,000 points to start redeeming
- 30,000 points = $20 Paypal payment
- Amazon gift cards start at 25,000 points
Once you have the minimum of 8,000 points in your account, you can click on your points to look at the redeeming options.
You usually earn about 10-20 points for listening to a song, so that's about $0.01 to $0.02 per song.
This doesn't sound like much, but again, if you listen to music endlessly you'll start to get some free gift cards.
Users have mentioned that receiving their gift cards can take over a week. However, they do eventually receive their rewards regardless of how long it takes.

Is The Current Rewards App Legit?
Yes, Current Rewards is a legit money-making app that pays you small amounts of money for listening to music and completing other short tasks. However, it's very unlikely that you can make $600 per year or more like the app often advertises. This is because the app doesn't pay much per task you complete.
If you really want to make the most money with Current Rewards, you have to listen to music on the Current Rewards app only from now on with an average listen time of 30 hours per week.
You also need to check in with the app every day to make sure there are extra ways to earn or take advantage of your earning rate.
Does that seem worth it to you?
If you think it’s worth it, then you should definitely give the Current app a try!
Alternatively, listen to music with Current and just redeem the odd free gift card as it comes…you don't have to make $600 for this app to be worth it!
The app is legit, and there's Current Rewards payment proof online and plenty of reviews on Reddit from users:
But, let's be real: this is still just a source of beermoney at the end of the day.
Ultimately, this app is not going to allow you to quit your job and it’s probably too minimal to even be considered a side hustle.
However, the passive nature and decent music selection makes it worth considering.
How Much Does Current Music Rewards Pay?
Current Rewards claims that you can earn up to $600 per year listening to music through their app. And this equals about $11.50 in earnings every week.
Keep in mind, this is an estimate under the assumption that you listen to music for around 30 hours per week and maximize all your earning potential.
While this number may be realistic for some, you might find that the earnings are lower than that.
Real users have stated earning close to $25 within the first 2 months. However, the earnings per play can decline for some users from that point onwards.
As you can see, this one user from Reddit says that they've earned about $30 from using Current, so it's clear the app is legit and pays.
However, how much you earn depends on your location, how much of your profile is complete, and how long you are consuming the music.
If you want to earn that $600/year, it’s going to take a lot of hours of listening while also sharing your preferences with the app so that you can be rewarded for your efforts.
Of course listening to music takes time, but I bet you can find ways to listen while doing other things.
The point is, it’s not cutting out time from you performing other tasks.
That’s where I believe the true earning potential is.
Other Current Rewards App Reviews
While the app’s website may have a lot of useful information, sometimes the most valuable and honest information comes from real people who have actually tried out the app.
To be honest, the reviews seem quite mixed.
Many users from Reddit have reported earning between 10-20 points per play.
However, others found that their points started off that way and fell all the way down to 0.5-3 points per play.
This Current Rewards app review from YouTube Paid From Surveys also shares his experience with using the app and some payment proof.
In his review, he shares how he loves the idea of making money by listening to music.
But what he doesn't like is that you barely earn points for listening to music, and you basically have to answer paid surveys or download games if you want to earn real cash.
Ultimately, you can make money with the Current app. But earnings vary per user and by country at the end of the day.
So, you have to try the Current Rewards app for yourself to see how much you earn per song since this varies based on where you live.
Regardless of money, people have been really happy with the radio stations offered on the app. They stated that they have unique and well put together song lists that actually make the app feel worth it.
If you live in the U.S., listen to 20-30 hours of music per day, and like to discover new radio stations, then you might really enjoy Current Rewards like so many other users are.
If you want a bit more proof, both app stores are pretty solid.
Current Rewards has 35,000 reviews on the app store with a 4.4 star rating. Google Play Store has the same star rating with over 600,000 reviews!

And, as mentioned, you can also use other paid gaming apps like Mistplay, or try out better paid survey sites like Survey Junkie and Pinecone Research that pay more than Current Rewards.

The bottom line is this is a legit company, but it's a fun source of extra money and not a serious side hustle.

The Current Rewards app pays you for listening to music and ads.
But as mentioned, the earning potential is quite low, and it's paid surveys, watching videos, and playing mobile games that really let you earn more rewards with this app.
What Are Some Current Music App Tricks?
If you want to earn more points with Current Rewards, make sure you complete your profile!
According to Current Rewards, “The speed at which you earn is based on how much of your profile has been completed and how long you are consuming. Our most valuable users play frequently and share preferences generously and we want to reward them for their contributions!”

So, you can make money with Mode Earn, but Current Rewards: Offline Music is just for listening to music without an internet connection.
Final Thoughts
I hope our Current Music review helps shed some light on if this app is legit or not!
Ultimately, you can probably make $25 or so with this app every month or two if you listen to plenty of music and complete some other paid offers. So, don't expect to make a full-time income or anything close to that.
But for an easy and fun side hustle idea, you can definitely consider giving Current a try.
Update: The Current app has rebranded to Mode Earn on Android devices but has the same name on iOS.
