Every once in a while, we'll put on a record that begs to be cranked all the way to 11. But sometimes those thudding beats and deafening guitars get to be too much for the lawyers that work below us, and they have to pound on the ceiling with a blunt object. This always gives us a cheap thrill, like we're punk-rock kids ticking off our square parents.
The Clash- The Clash
"Nevermind the bollocks, this here is punk at its finest. Mosh along with
old faves like 'I Fought the Law' and 'I'm So Bored of the U.S.A.'" Evany Rating:
Fugazi- In on the Killtaker
"This might be my favorite Fugazi album, and I grew up in DC, so I know." Nadav Rating:
Fugazi- 13 Songs
"This is the first CD I ever bought. I didn't even own a CD player yet. It ultimately became my favorite Fugazi album. The music is clean, hard,
passionate, and sincere. It evokes memories of free summer Fugazi
concerts, dancing, and the idealism and injustice of youth. DC punk rules!" Meghan Rating:
Gang Starr- Step in the Arena
"Its 1990 debut remains Gang Starr's best album. Step in the Arena is a
minimalist hip-hop gem, combining Guru's clever, smooth lyrics with DJ
Premier's signature 'two turntables in an empty warehouse' beats." Nadav Rating:
Kids- Soundtrack
"Jam packed with languid frets from the original lo-fi, indie-rock wiz Lou Barlow (see Sebadoh, Dinosaur Jr., Folk Implosion), Kids Soundtrack best accompanies light debugging; low-level, subroutine construction; or Robitussin chasers." thau Rating:
Nirvana- Bleach
Before every kid in the suburbs ran out to get Nevermind there was Bleach. Rating:
