When you get regular pictures from the photo shop, you can only show them to your friends and relatives who live near you. But if you make a slide show on the Web, people can look at your pictures whether they live nearby or far away, and they can look at them whenever they want. Here's how to make one:
1. Take a bunch of pictures. Make sure they're not boring.
2. You need to get your pictures onto your computer, which can be done in several ways. If you have a digital camera, it's easy - you just download them to your hard drive. Also, some photo shops will put your pictures on their Web site or on a CD-ROM for you. Or you can use a scanner to scan them in yourself.
3. Once all of your pictures are on your computer, you'll need to edit them. Pick out the best pictures and leave out the rest. Then use your image editor (if you don't have one, go to our Tools section to get one) to make them all the same size and save them as JPEG files. For help with this, check out the Images lesson.
4. Click on the little picture to the right to see our example slide show. Hit the Powered by Webmonkey button when you're ready to come back. See how each picture gets its own page and caption? And see how you can go to the next picture by clicking on the word "next" in the corner?
5. Now you need to change the HTML code so our slide show has your pictures and captions. So go back to our example and look at the source code. Copy this code and paste it into your text editor. We left some hints and instructions in the code to help you along. (If you don't have a text editor, look in our Tools section.)
6. Once it's ready, put it on the Web, tell your friends the address, and brag about your cool pictures. And remember: If you go snorkeling, never swim with piranhas. It's just not a good idea.
